Stack Overflow for Teams Overview

What is Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack Overflow for Teams is a knowledge-sharing platform that facilitates the collection, curation, and dissemination of your company’s knowledge. We do this by providing a platform that’s familiar to developers, embedded into developer workflows, and closes the distance between people and the knowledge they need, using gamification to encourage contribution and engagement. The community-based platform connects knowledge seekers and domain experts through an easy-to-use Q&A tool developers already know with additional functionality built in to ensure institutional knowledge is validated, accessible, and up-to-date both now and in the future. OverflowAI, our new GenAI-powered features for Stack Overflow For Teams Enterprise, helps connect technologists to solutions faster by doing the heavy lifting of searching for technical and institutional knowledge by surfacing and sourcing answers in natural ways, in the environments developers work in.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Having an internal SO to ask specific questions about your business code or processes where your colleagues can see it and they should have the context as opposed to public SO. Also useful as internal documentation as you can ask a question and answer it yourself all in one action. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The tagging system so far is annoying compared to public SO. It will register tags that we've used in our SO instance but marks them as a red colour like they're invalid. It would be nice if we could assign a short description like other popular tags from the main SO site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The faster you onboard the team, the better. It's a good idea to hit the floor running with some standard questions you know the members know the answers to. From my team and I's experience, it was definitely worth it and has helped improve our productivity and avoid time lost on repeated questions and misunderstood answers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

We faced a big issue with knowledge sharing. In the past, devs would exchange knowledge through informal means like text messaging, face-to-face conversation, and/or phone calls. That resulted in repeated questions, misunderstood answers, and, naturally, lowered productivity. Stack Overflow for Teams solved this by providing a permanent, editable, asynchronous documentation/QA platform with a format all the devs are used to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
