Stack Overflow for Teams Overview

What is Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack Overflow for Teams is a knowledge-sharing platform that facilitates the collection, curation, and dissemination of your company’s knowledge. We do this by providing a platform that’s familiar to developers, embedded into developer workflows, and closes the distance between people and the knowledge they need, using gamification to encourage contribution and engagement. The community-based platform connects knowledge seekers and domain experts through an easy-to-use Q&A tool developers already know with additional functionality built in to ensure institutional knowledge is validated, accessible, and up-to-date both now and in the future. OverflowAI, our new GenAI-powered features for Stack Overflow For Teams Enterprise, helps connect technologists to solutions faster by doing the heavy lifting of searching for technical and institutional knowledge by surfacing and sourcing answers in natural ways, in the environments developers work in.

"Amazing tool for the teams"
What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

It made working in the team so much easier. Before we were asking questions on slack between each other and all this knowledge was lost or hard to access. We improved our cooperation tons. And the introduction of the new team members takes half of the time it used to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

No slack integration with private channels. That would make our life so much easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Revolutionized our knowledge sharing within 6 months"
What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

I've been a contributor on the public StackOverflow site for years, and I felt this could benefit companies internally for a long while. After my employer to adopted the product, I was happy to see that everything I liked about the public StackOverflow site (clear format, reputation points, voting, moderation) is available and just as helpful in the SO for Teams product. Developers got used to asking and searching on SO rather quickly - probably thanks to the familiar format and relatively friendly UX. The fear factor preventing most developers from actually contributing content online seems to be all but eliminated by the internal nature of SO for Teams. I and many others report a reduction in time wasted answering repeated questions or searching for past answers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The only caveat is the price :) The per-user pricing model might be a bit steep for some companies. In our case, I think there's consensus that it's worth it, but that's a complex calculation to make. Also, the Search functionality can be slightly improved - as it sometimes misses a relevant answer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"No more mind-dumps documentations!"
What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack Overflow was my "go-to" place when having a problem for many years now. Announcing Stack Overflow for Teams made me very interesting, but only after the team made it free of charge for teams smaller than 50 I was able to convince anyone at the company to try and use it. Although it's not easy to convince people to actually use it, ask questions or answer them (apparently some people visit Stack Overflow, but barely engage and ask questions), once we actually managed to encourage them to do so, we got many questions we were otherwise not able to get with our daily communication tools (Teams, mail, and so on). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The only thing that is to be disliked is the fact that you cannot add new tags from mobile. A somewhat weird (although understandable) restriction for the free model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack overflows ease of use great search feature which interpolates searches and its AMAZING community that go out of its way to help are what make it special and differentiates it from other online communities Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The UI can be overwhelming and can be overhauled for a better user experience. As well an option to see which answers have been clicked on and searched before is good to sift through different solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"An excellent tool so that you have to answer questions once"
What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

If you have a question that someone else has likely already had about the app, you can easily find someone's previous answer instead of asking again. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Even though we have a slack integration, and there is incentive through the Stack Overflow point system, questions can get buried sometimes and never answered Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good reproduction of the StackOverflow Q&A service, could use more integrations"
What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

SO for Teams is a better place to host longer-term documentation for your organization. A chat platform can retain history indefinitely but it will always lack organization. Having recognizable questions is a valuable form of documentation for discovery purposes. Moreover, editing existing answers with newer information is invaluable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The platform could offer better integration with third-party services by offering web-hooks. In particular, some of my organization uses Discord for communication, so having a webhook to relay questions to discord would be useful to notify users when a question is posted. At the moment, my organization has just begun to use SO for Teams, and we check the SO site much less frequently than our chat platforms like discord. That integration would certainly be helpful to bring more of the developers on our chat platform closer to our SO forum. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
