Arcserve UDP Overview

What is Arcserve UDP?

Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP) delivers data protection and disaster recovery for every type of workload. Backed by heterogeneous, image-based technology that protects to and from any target, it’s the first of its kind to combine enterprise-ready features without the complexity of traditional enterprise solutions. Deployment modalities include software, physical appliances and hybrid cloud. Easily turn on and off capabilities as needed, and scale hybrid business continuity topologies, locally or over long distances with multiple sites, including service and cloud providers. Installation is done in a few clicks. Create data stores on the recovery point server, add the nodes you want to protect, a storage destination, and a plan. Back up to either a local machine or a central recovery point server (RPS) with global, source-side deduplication. A destination can be an RPS, local folder, or remote shared folder. Add network CIFS/NFS shares, Office 365 Exchange or SharePoint online nodes, and create related tasks. Perform jobs such as backup, virtual standby, instant VM and replicate. Perform a simple restore or a bare metal recovery. Fully protect a broad range of platforms, including: Windows, Linux, Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, Office 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business), Microsoft Exchange, MS SQL, file servers, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft Active Directory, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, VMware vSphere (agentless), Microsoft Hyper-V (agentless) and Nutanix AHV. What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

If I can highlight something, it is that it works quickly and very well. Additionally, the final space occupied by the backups after deduplication is negligible compared to the total volume of information to be backed up. I also have to highlight the ability to virtually bring up a failed machine within the UDP itself. The ability to replicate between 2 UDP Appliances in different geographical locations very easily is an ideal solution to not worry about disasters. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

Something that doesn't quite convince me is the construction of some custom reports. In my opinion, it's the part I would improve in case the default reports are not useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:

For IT managers looking to definitively resolve the tasks of safeguarding corporate information by implementing a Disaster Recovery solution, I think it is a very good solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?

Previously, we had another backup system. After switching to Arcserve UDP, the first thing we noticed is a lot of reliability, in addition to not needing huge amounts of space to back up our entire organization. We have a hybrid corporate email environment, and it allows us to back up all mailboxes from Exchange online and on-premises Exchange without any additional licenses. The ability to spin up virtual machines from backups on the UDP appliance is wonderful for getting by in an emergency. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

ARCSERVE...I use it since 10 years ago and I've never changed it for another solution because until now I've not found any other software that can compete with it.

It's simple, efficient and his processes do what they are made to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

Yes, there is only a point that I can describe with light negative words...it's the managing of his DataBase...in the past with the VLDB (old DB format), manage the DB was a horror story. Now, migrating to SQL DB, it's quite simple but hard to contain his growth Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:

In one of my previous job experience, the slogan of a Company was "truth well told", and we can apply to ARCSERVE Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?

Fast restore and recover point.

The data backuped are immediately available to solve the user requests or to solve any other kind of incident that my company has had in the past years.

With a new colleague, I've made an Arcserve competition handover, because we've decided that he will be the new Backup Administrator. He has immediately understood the ARCSERVe functionalities, and he started immediately to manage it. So very simple to manage and, as already written, do what it is made to do. What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

The recovery process is easy and we always get good backups. Excellent value for the price. Other products can do more, but not at this price. It was a great complimentary product to our other more robust backup solutions. I would definatly recommend this for any SMB looking for a straight forward backup soultion for a few physical servers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

The ui seems a bit slow and clunky at times but it is fairly intuitive. It is nice to have the web ui, but it could be improved. Aside from that there isn't any other negatives. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:

Arcserve is a great product for the price. If you are looking for more than a simple and easy to use bare metal solution look elsewhere Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have used Arcserve udp for years to backup our bare metal servers and could not ask for more at their price point.Simple and easy scheduled backup and just as easy restores. We relied on this product for years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

The centralized console and reporting make things very easy for a large MSP such as ourselves. We can view everything from the top and drill down to learn more. The install is also very easy and support is very responsive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are backing up over 75 different clients and hundred servers all from one console. We have previously used multiple products and had to maintain our own storage and servers.Moving to an all cloud solution has saved significant dollars by reducing hardware to none and lowering bandwidth usage. What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

The simplicity of being able to recover VMs with just a click, and the reporting and dashboard that show that our systems are fully backed up and protected. Also, excellent compression means we are able to store significant quantities of backups and data using just a small amount of storage. We likely will be backing up our data to a cloud storage (also built in) within the year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

The inability to do a cloud backup while also doing mirror backups to a secondary device. In an ideal world, I’d prefer to have all backups from the primary UDP go to our secondary UDP appliance and also to the cloud. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?

Unified backups without need for tapes. Tapes often fail and can be difficult to use when recovering data. This system solves that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

The best thing about UDP is the ability to perform 'Instant VM'. Rather than trying to recover and restore a server, just spool up a VM based on the last backup! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

The thing about UDP is it is difficult to understand sometimes. The inability to restore individual Linux files easily (requires 'reverse replication') does hamper it's usefulness in that area. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are covering more data now with UDP than we did with tape and getting more copies.

We also use Arcserve hybrid-cloud for offsite data retention. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

The UDP is easy to set up out-of-box. Even setting up replication is easily accomplished. The unit we employed also has the ability to spin up a "virtual server" from the last backup which makes disaster recovery effortless Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

The only shortcoming that I have discovered is the UDP does not send out emails for Linux backup failures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:

You can't best the ease of use, yet security if the data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?

Backups are assured. But even better, the data is easily restored. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
