Arcserve UDP Overview

What is Arcserve UDP?

Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP) delivers data protection and disaster recovery for every type of workload. Backed by heterogeneous, image-based technology that protects to and from any target, it’s the first of its kind to combine enterprise-ready features without the complexity of traditional enterprise solutions. Deployment modalities include software, physical appliances and hybrid cloud. Easily turn on and off capabilities as needed, and scale hybrid business continuity topologies, locally or over long distances with multiple sites, including service and cloud providers. Installation is done in a few clicks. Create data stores on the recovery point server, add the nodes you want to protect, a storage destination, and a plan. Back up to either a local machine or a central recovery point server (RPS) with global, source-side deduplication. A destination can be an RPS, local folder, or remote shared folder. Add network CIFS/NFS shares, Office 365 Exchange or SharePoint online nodes, and create related tasks. Perform jobs such as backup, virtual standby, instant VM and replicate. Perform a simple restore or a bare metal recovery. Fully protect a broad range of platforms, including: Windows, Linux, Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, Office 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business), Microsoft Exchange, MS SQL, file servers, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft Active Directory, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, VMware vSphere (agentless), Microsoft Hyper-V (agentless) and Nutanix AHV. "A Good backup software"
What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

The features that we like the best is the Deduplication. We also use the encryption on tape.

The support is really responsive when we need it.

It's easy to recover files from the server and from Tapes. The hierarchical system help our admin a lot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

The tape management is really a step back. We cannot release tape when some other tape is in the writing slot. It's a pain.

The interface is easy to use, but there is some menu that are really hard to find. I would like a more of a wizard approach. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Very stable and easy to use"
What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?

I backup lot of terabytes of files on many different servers. ArcServe can backup open files, with deduplication and a lot of high level features.

I also backup Exchange Server in a Failover Cluster. I like how easy it is to add a new cluster to the backup jobs. I can tell ArcServe to backup using the passive nodes, helping the active nodes performance. You can backup and restore from database to emails, very granular when correctly configured.

I backup System State and Bare Metal servers that I can restore easily inside of VMs.

I backup to disk, disk to Tape, with many different jobs configuration and schedule based on the data to backup. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?

I had many issues with my SQL Backup, not clearing the transaction logs. My servers were full, and using my previous backup solution, I didn't see it coming. Was disappointed.

I have a lot of coredump for no reason, and ArcServe won't clean it. It fills my hosts.

The UI is old, and can be buggy or hard to understand. Finding logs or errors can be hard sometimes, understanding what went wrong and what worked.

Make ups jobs are messy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
