Stack Overflow for Teams Overview

What is Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack Overflow for Teams is a knowledge-sharing platform that facilitates the collection, curation, and dissemination of your company’s knowledge. We do this by providing a platform that’s familiar to developers, embedded into developer workflows, and closes the distance between people and the knowledge they need, using gamification to encourage contribution and engagement. The community-based platform connects knowledge seekers and domain experts through an easy-to-use Q&A tool developers already know with additional functionality built in to ensure institutional knowledge is validated, accessible, and up-to-date both now and in the future. OverflowAI, our new GenAI-powered features for Stack Overflow For Teams Enterprise, helps connect technologists to solutions faster by doing the heavy lifting of searching for technical and institutional knowledge by surfacing and sourcing answers in natural ways, in the environments developers work in.

The most helpful is the search functionality, so our development team can search anything in a few seconds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

What we don't like is the editor capabilities. It should be easier to register an answer (with code samples). It should be also possible to upload small files. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

No place to put long form documentation that is not actually a question. It's probably out of scope anyway. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

It's very familiar for every software developer. We all get in contact with StackOverflow on a nearly daily basis so having a secure place to share the teams knowledge with a familiar interface is a win. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

This isn't really an issue with the product but adaption can be slow, as so often a few colleagues embrace it but by far now all. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

We now have a unified solution to share knowledge instead of having it all over the place in GitHub, Confluence and JIRA. It made life simpler. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The ability to answer questions and store the responses in a "public" format for our internal teams makes handling complicated technical questions easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

No real dislikes of this service...only that it didn't exist sooner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

The biggest issue we had before was knowledge transfer as we are a highly technical product. Questions would be answered in Slack but it would be hard to distribute these after the point in time they were asked. Stack Overflow for teams saves us tons of time and makes things easy to organize. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

It's a tool that we're used to, as most of us have used Stack Overflow before, but we can now directly ask questions without having to scrub company information from them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

At the moment, you can't put a profile picture specific to just the team -- meaning that you can either include a personal picture, but have it be visible to the Internet in general, or you can have your cool picture on Stack Overflow appearing in a company space. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow for Teams:

We've been happy with it. I'd especially recommend it if you have teams in multiple locations, and want to make it easier for them to connect with one another. As well, it's likely that if you're working with computer programmers, they've already got experience with Stack Overflow, which will make using this tool even easier for them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have several locations, and it's been useful to be able to connect with people outside of just my team's location. As well, questions that we submit are often answered by people that we might not otherwise have reached out to for help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

* You have a single knowledge base built into a product that developers are familiar with.

* Once you answer a question there's no need to answer the same question again.

* Slack integration Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

I would definitely love to see some more work on the integration with slack, and possibly a bit more interaction with the team on the platform itself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

The main issue we've had as a team is that we were getting lost helping each other or new comers solve issues that we've solved hundreds of times before hand. - Having a central place where devs can communicate, ask questions and answer questions is a step forward in increasing our efficiency. What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Ability to select the best/most relevant answer but still keep the background provided by other ones. There are many people from different departments who can contribute knowledge to one question and with Stack Overflow for Teams we can see the whole picture. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Similarly to regular Stack Overflow, the code highlighting is limited and is missing languages/formats we're used to have nicely highlighted in our editors (i.e. YAML). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

With a growing engineering team, we found harder to share knowledge about how and why some things are done in a specific way. With Stack Overflow for Teams were able to have a centralized place for all the knowledge. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Its easy to create and search Q&A like threads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Mostly, we use this tool to answer problems we've solved and want to keep the solution internally.

You currently cannot do it in a single action, you must create a question, and then answer it seperatly. wasting time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

Keeping solutions of problems solved for other employees in case they will encounter such problems.

Sort of knowledge management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
