"Innovative, but needs more onboarding resources."
What do you like best about Vev?

If you don't want to deal with coding, or if you dislike how other website buildings operate (WordPress..), Vev is something worth trying and investing in.

It's object based design makes it easier to understand than other builders, and a breeze to get into if you've had any experience with layer based programs like Photoshop.

It's very easy to see how your page will appear between screen sizes as well, and easy to edit content and page design separately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vev?

My main issue with valve is that there are no good tutorials on it and I think that's part because it's not popular enough to have the community resources that exist online to help newcomers.

While I did think that most of the Vev provided tutorials were helpful there was not a tutorial that went from the ground up on how Vev worked fundementally.

Considering that I do not have a background in web design but a little experience in Photoshop, I think it's ok to have a little difficulty, but I did try really hard to find any resource I could that could explain the features I was having trouble with.

Scaling was a very complicated thing for me as elements could get smaller or stay static or change position depending on how big the screen was, even between "modes". for example the screen would appear differently on say a large phone versus a smaller phone even though it didn't switch between say tablet and phone mode.

Small changes in pixel dimensions can impact the scaling and it was pretty difficult to learn how to scaling worked and I really think that they need to make tutorials for each specific feature/aspect of that.

Thankfully they have a Discord where you can ask questions that has people that work there, but I think they should just look back at their older tutorials and seeing if it truly teaches you the fundamentals of Vev, and if not they should redo them and make a better tutorial/series.

Maybe a video that went in depth with scaling, and just that and what kinds situations or mistakes you could run into and how you could remedy that.

Maybe a video dedicated to all the different things you can do with the Burger menu.

another thing that I would like to see more that is necessarily a negative is an inspiration page or feature for the kinds of animations you can do.

maybe I'm looking at a specific kind of animation that I can implement into valve and I wanted to know how this animation was used elsewhere so maybe I could click on an inspiration button next to that type of animation and I could go to a separate web page that would show me all the different ways it was used on other websites. "Full creativity with no restrictions - VEV is a gamechanger for us"
What do you like best about Vev?

FIrst of all, we do not have to think about template restrictions or code. The interface and usability is quite intuitive, with some Adobe flair, so we felt at home right away. Support works fine, you get the answers you need in reasonable time - and even if you are asking simple or stupid questions, the VEV team helps you in a friendly way. For us it is an advantage to be able to download the storys/sites in ZIP files - we are using storytelling a lot on iPADS on trade fares, and with a sketchy wifi and slow mobile connections beeing able to show content offline saved our day a couple of times. We love the 3D module (GLB files) - even if you have to know exactly how to produce the files, once you figured, the result can be spectacular: check out https://a-msi.vev.site/noa-philosophy (GLB model at the bottom of the story). What do you dislike about Vev?

Since VEV is charging pr. story published, we lost some potential customers looking for a blog style site - adding USD 5 for each story killed the budget. Aware that many stories can be packed into one, but then things are getting really slow. A solution would be to charge per site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Build Fast, feature-rich pages, without needing Engineering involved"
What do you like best about Vev?

It's a feature-rich developer experience similar to Sketch, with easy control over aspects such as flex-box, and its output is a page that is both feature-rich And fast-loading. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vev?

It has a learning curve - it wasn't as easy as our Sales VP would've liked. However, it was acceptable for our needs - It's fast, and offers a wide variety of options.

We would have liked to have expanded to use it for our blog (130 pages) and many of our other sales pages (100+), but in its current form, it's not ready – each page needs to be built by hand as it cannot pull data from an external data source like a CMS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Loving the front-end no code capabilities of Vev!"
What do you like best about Vev?

The interface is extremely easy to use, the learning curve is easy, and of course as a designer first, the whole approach to no-code is because it merges the gap nicely between developer capabilities and design capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vev?

I wish we were able to add in custom fonts prior to paying for the site as a whole. Sometimes clients want to be able to see their designs come to life fully and that is usually before the next milestone is met in contract wise so I usually end up having to pay for the site while it's being developed. "Getting Better All the Time"
What do you like best about Vev?

It's an active experience for the reader. Print is great, and I've been an art director for print for almost 40 years, but print magazine readership and subscribers are slowly going away ... and in some cases, they're quickly going away. So going online, or giving up seems to be the only two choices. And if you're going online, then you need to deliver a compelling experience. I believe one can provide a compelling experience with VEV. You can crank-up the experience and have all kinds of movement (including video) on the screen, or you can go subtle, or even static. You've got choices. Also, VEV manages the software updates, so that's one thing I don't have to worry about or make a separate payment for. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vev?

It's s steep learning curve if you're used to thinking "PRINT" only. But I was able to make the transition, and I've been in the print business for 40 years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Now I can tell scrollytelling stories as seen on NYTimes without developers, coders and designers"
What do you like best about Vev?

There are other solutions around the web for scrollyteliing but non of them is easier to start and affordable as Vev. I have built my first story without spending tons of time understanding the tools and working environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vev?

Should have more templates to start with based on the most popular scrollytelling examples. Sometimes I feel that should have been done more for making the whole experience more helpful (more templates, more tools and tutorials) for independent newsrooms and journalists.
