Stack Overflow for Teams Overview

What is Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack Overflow for Teams is a knowledge-sharing platform that facilitates the collection, curation, and dissemination of your company’s knowledge. We do this by providing a platform that’s familiar to developers, embedded into developer workflows, and closes the distance between people and the knowledge they need, using gamification to encourage contribution and engagement. The community-based platform connects knowledge seekers and domain experts through an easy-to-use Q&A tool developers already know with additional functionality built in to ensure institutional knowledge is validated, accessible, and up-to-date both now and in the future. OverflowAI, our new GenAI-powered features for Stack Overflow For Teams Enterprise, helps connect technologists to solutions faster by doing the heavy lifting of searching for technical and institutional knowledge by surfacing and sourcing answers in natural ways, in the environments developers work in.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack Overflow provides a very well known interface for tech workers to ask questions and surface the best answers. Within an organization, this is just as valuable as it is in the wide open web. Weekly reports make it easy to keep track of your effectiveness at sharing knowledge internally, and API access makes it easy to integrate with your other systems, especially for SSO. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Permissions to perform operations aren't as fine-grained as I'd like. It would be nice be able to prevent certain member levels from being able to assign questions to other individuals or to force them to reuse existing tags instead of creating new ones. Without software level controls of these things, you have to train and enforce proper discipline to decrease your moderation burden on the tail end. You also have to use the question format to put process notes in the system, where a static page with a direct menu link might be more useful, but with the addition of Collections, that may be an acceptable mechanism for now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

We're using Stack Overflow to share knowledge internally between our various development teams. We also invite paying customers to join us via an SSO link from our accounts system. This essentially exposes our internal knowledgebase to anyone who wants to pay for access. It's a very nice entry level support option. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The interface is relatively simplistic. Could offer more robust features, but I understand the desire to keep it simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are trying to solve the issue of scattered information, and questions being asked over and over without a shared response. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

Being able to ask company related questions safely, and be able to search for those later.

I also like that it's one place for new hires to search questions related to our product, culture and have questions about coding answered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

There isn't anything related to Stack Overflow that I dislike so far.. It has been super helpful to have one place to concentrate the knowledge base for my company.

If there was one thing I think I would change is to make search more assertive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Stack Overflow for Teams:

We recommend others to consider Stack Overflow for Teams and concentrate all questions in it.. sometimes people may ask questions in private, or a video conference or in chat but it's best to do it in Stack Overflow since that question may also be other people's questions.

It's also recommended to guide all new hires to it since it can save a lot of time for answering questions that may be already answered before by other employees. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

Knowledge sharing and answering the same questions. Also, it's a good place for new hires to search for stuff.

The first benefit we have is to concentrate all the common answers in a single place. Besides that, we have a safe environment for everyone in the company to ask questions, without being afraid or giving public information. And also it's a more probable place for my question to be answered since my coworkers have the context about what I'm asking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
