Stack Overflow for Teams Overview

What is Stack Overflow for Teams?

Stack Overflow for Teams is a knowledge-sharing platform that facilitates the collection, curation, and dissemination of your company’s knowledge. We do this by providing a platform that’s familiar to developers, embedded into developer workflows, and closes the distance between people and the knowledge they need, using gamification to encourage contribution and engagement. The community-based platform connects knowledge seekers and domain experts through an easy-to-use Q&A tool developers already know with additional functionality built in to ensure institutional knowledge is validated, accessible, and up-to-date both now and in the future. OverflowAI, our new GenAI-powered features for Stack Overflow For Teams Enterprise, helps connect technologists to solutions faster by doing the heavy lifting of searching for technical and institutional knowledge by surfacing and sourcing answers in natural ways, in the environments developers work in.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

It's not as "quick" as using some sort of shared company messaging service. There isn't a real-time notification to let you know when your question has been answered, so it requires checking back. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I am trying to learn a vendor's system to assume day-to-day maintenance. With Stack Overflow for Teams, I can ask questions of developers from the vendor to learn what I need to learn and build a knowledge base for other developers at the company at the same time. What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

The main problem that Stack Overflow is solving is that the team were not able to find solutions to common problems. The information was scattered around Confluence and Slack, but it was hard to find or outdated. The team members were asking the same questions over and over and solutions were not easy to share. What do you like best about Stack Overflow for Teams?

It's a convenient and organized place to document all of the questions/answers team members have or will have in the future. It's a much more convenient place to record general FAQs that may pop up compared to Slack, Google Docs, or someplace else. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stack Overflow for Teams?

The text input is buggy (trying to use snake_case in code blocks italicizes the code for instances, which from what I can tell doesn't happen on regular SO). Also, the bounty system works identically to regular SO, which I see as a problem because it doesn't encourage long-unanswered questions to be resolved since team members have to sacrifice their own karma to get a question answered. In an open platform this makes sense, but for teams, the goal should be to get all questions answered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stack Overflow for Teams solving and how is that benefiting you?

SO for Teams is providing our team with an organized and familiar means of posting questions and answers for issues that teammates often run into. This allows us to resolve issues quickly and access old questions if someone else runs into a problem that's been taken care of before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
