Amazon RDS simplifies database management by automating tasks like backups, scaling, and patching. It also supports multiple database engines, making it versatile for various use cases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I find challenging with Amazon RDS is the limited control over low-level configurations compared to self-managed databases. Additionally, costs can escalate quickly, especially with high storage and I/O requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The various services that are available to integrate and build solution softwares. Like codecommit, codebuid, codepipeline to build cicd pipelines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The New UI which was introduced recently has some bugs that needs to be fixed that includes automatic logout when opening VPC via RDS or Ec2 console page. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The thing I value most about Amazon RDS is how easy it is to handle database jobs. We are able to concentrate more on application development and less on database management because of the automated backups, simplicity and scalability options. High availability and performance are also provided.Which is essential for startup applications. Its is very simple to integrate it with other aws services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
High Cost is one issue with Amazon RDS, particularly as the database increases. Although the service has many great features, the cost can add up rapidly, especially if you need a lot of storage and have high availability settings. Also, some users who require more customization may find the restricted control over some parameters, in comparison to self-managed databases, to be restricting. The maintenance windows are another small annoyance although required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The great thing about RDS is the shift in how we operate.
Instead of having to buy a new server, install an operating system, and a bunch of other tasks, then download the backup data, then restore, and finally start replicating, now with just a few operations my RDS cluster can scale 1 or more nodes.
Not only that, tasks like updating mysql version using Blue/Green approach can now be completely delegated to application team members without having to depend on devops team, which I find really useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I find it difficult to estimate exactly how much money I should spend on RDS, as it depends on many factors.
Perhaps that is one of the few things I am not satisfied with about RDS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Its a place where you find everythign related to cloud servuces like the VM's, database, load balancing, storage, security, firewall, etc. So there is no need to join any other product if you are in the cloud and want everythingin a dingle place that's the best thing i like in the AWS cloud. Managing costs effectively can be challenging due to the complexity of AWS pricing. There's also a learning curve for mastering AWS services, and configuring and maintaining security controls requires ongoing attention. While rare, service disruptions can impact operations despite AWS's overall reliability. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Managed Service: Automates routine tasks like backups and patching.
Multi-Engine Support: Offers flexibility with multiple database engines (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
Scalability: Easily scales instances up or down based on demand.
High Availability: Provides automatic failover with Multi-AZ deployments.
Security: Integrates with IAM and supports encryption at rest and in transit.
Monitoring: Offers detailed performance monitoring via Amazon CloudWatch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Limited Customization: As a managed service, RDS restricts certain configurations and settings compared to self-managed databases.
Cost: While the pay-as-you-go model can be cost-effective, it can become expensive with high usage or if not optimized.
Performance Variability: Performance can be impacted by other users in a multi-tenant environment, especially in shared resources.
Backup Limitations: Automated backups have a retention period, and restoring from a point in time may not always include the most recent changes.
Region Availability: Not all database engines or features are available in every AWS region, limiting deployment options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The platform takes care of many of the headaches of database management like backups, patching, and replication, which allows you to focus on application development rather than the infrastructure and db server.one of the biggest advantages is its scalability. You can easily scale up or down based on your needs, and it's quite handy when your database usage fluctuates. The integration set up is awesome.it is easy to implement and integration with other services. The support is also good. Whenever there's a big application for minimize the risk and headache I always use AWS. I use it more frequently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
