PhpStorm makes it easy to navigate my codebase quickly. This is achieved with the JetBrains file search software. I like how the Git client is a built-in tool. This IDE is also very customizable, making it feel more personal with different themes, code formats, and keybindings. I also found syntax highlighting to be quite good. If you are a student this product is available for free for a year. This gives you a chance to experiment with this IDE and get a look at how powerful it can be. This application also receives regular updates and security patches. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When using PhpStorm, it can take up quite a bit of memory. If you have not used a JetBrains product before, PhpStorm can be somewhat intimidating to learn. There are "Getting Started" guides that can be helpful, but I found you have to learn about the more powerful tools on your own. But after getting over the learning curve, there is quite a lot you can do with this IDE. This IDE does come at a steep cost though. The first year costs $89. This is followed by a cheaper price of around $71 for the second year. The third year and onward is more manageable at around $53. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I always find it troublesome to setup Database servers and PHP configs and then other components of website differently but PHPStorm helps me do everything from inside it, and makes me more productve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The initial creation of the project can sometimes get challenging inside PHPStorm too but at least all the configuration is happening from inside of IDE and I dont have to look anywhere else. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
How well the IDE has so many needed tools integrated into one environment seamlessly. And how intellij environments can so easily be expanded upon to add more functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are so many features and so much flexibility that it's very difficult to be able to get through all the settings to have everything setup just the way a developer likes things to be setup. Also, the plugin system frequently has issues because of backward compatibility. While plugin devs should keep up with this, it would be nice if there were better fallback options to prevent plugins from failing...ie be more backward compatible. PHPStorm handles code completion, refactoring, and auto-formatting really well. There is also a large community of 3rd party plugins to extend its capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Licensing costs are high for individuals (unless you are an Open Source developer) ... although you do get what you pay for. It is a bit of a memory and battery hog as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
PhpStorm's coding environment is the best that I have ever used. Coding errors are caught immediately (i.e. misspelled class name), and the completely customizable interface makes great use of colors, automatic indents, and code folding. Another great feature of PhpStorm is that it will automatically notify you when you have function input parameter errors (i.e. incorrect data type or incorrect number of parameters given). Lastly (and this is by far not a complete list of things that I like about PhpStorm), I love the automatic integration of repository (i.e. GitHub Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is not much I can comment about here as PhpStorm has propelled my web-based, data-driven application development to the next level. PhpStorm's support is next level - they actually listen to your ideas to make the product better and their update procedure allows you to work without implementing the update (it's your choice WHEN to implement the update). Its very useful editor for php language. Colour code make code looks clean and find error line very easily. Plugin are very helpful to write code very fast and accurate which save alot of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Its very hard to find any disadvantages using phpStorm. One face issue large php project some take much time to load but when its fully loaded its fast as normally is. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is a complete IDE, with many plugins that will help you write your code more straightforwardly, easy integration with the PSR standard, and multiple versions of PHP; you have to define which version you will use in each project, and the IDE does the rest, the running and debugging unit tests is also very well implemented Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Perhaps one of the most significant disadvantages that the IDE has is its price, but if you can afford it, it is a super recommended tool; you also have the option of trying it for a few days to see if it meets expectations, another point against is that some plugins are paid separately Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When I start learning backend development ( PHP ), I start using PhpStorm, because It has great Stupp and the richest features, It's auto-complete which is pretty awesome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is pretty good but it is not so easy to use, if you are new to using PHP Storm you may face some difficulty understanding or if your system's RAM is less than 8GB you might face lacking of system Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are multiple things that I really like about PhpStorm; some of them are :
1. It provides an easy integration with GIT, which opens up a lot of opportunities for a developer to secure and synchronize his/her code and, ultimately, the project.
2. PhpStorm provides a coder with a lot of shortcuts during the development, which assists the developer and makes the code time-efficient and effective.
3. The UI/UX is so friendly and clean it gives the developer a pretty warm environment while coding. Moreover, it's damn easy to install and run that any naive person can start coding with PhpStorm easily.
4. It offers a list of plugins to install and make your job easy. I have installed many extensions according to my coding tactics, and I may tell you it provides an excellent level of comfort. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Apart from all these positives, there are some negatives which need to be improvised :
1. Foremost thing which I count as a negative factor will be its support. PhpStorm only supports PHP, HTML, CSS, and JS, which I think limits the use of this IDE, and the user has to install other platforms to handle other programming languages. I think this should be fixed and it should support almost every language.
2. To run smoothly and seamlessly, PhpStorm needs a good hardware with an excellent RAM capacity. On a low-spec system, it runs very laggy and provides a lot of latency.
3. Where many IDE is free and provides everything a developer needs, PHPStorm is a paid IDE. What the pricing of this platform should be is a debatable topic, but yeah, I think all free IDE's with similar capabilities holds a plus point against PhpStorm on this.
