"Magento is largely the best PHP Open Source solution for e-commerce"
What do you like best about Magento Open Source?

You can start with a small catalogue and grow up with thousands of products without the need of changing platform.

After 10 years the 1.x serie is still a good software with only 9 minor releases.

Coding with Magento framework is the biggest pleasure, you can override and extend everything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Magento's official support has not been up to par, yet Magento community more than compensated for that.

"Built a full featured Magento site for an employer"
What do you like best about Magento Open Source?

Magento is an incredibly capable eCommerce platform built on the Zen PHP framework. It has a lot of community support through paid plugins and has security updates often even with the open source community version. It has basically unlimited customization for a developer that knows what they're doing. There are a lot of integrations with external services, and you can even accept Bitcoin with it! Many cheap and good themes are available to make it look beautiful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Magento Open Source?

The complexity is over the top even for an intermediate developer. Updates are very difficult to install. The media storage is built around a Unix file system and doesn't work well on Windows. It's massive and slow on local development versions. The paid plugins can sometimes get expensive for small shops. The open source version seems like an afterthought since Magento pushes its "Enterprise" subscriptions... which means their target audience appears very scattered. Contrast this to Drupal's Commerce option, which is all open and you pay firms to implement only. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What i like best about Magento is that not only does it come with a ton of features that every store owner probably needs, it also offers high flexibility in terms of developing custom features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Magento Open Source?

Magento is a little heavy, it requires optimization on the server side to run properly, a small price that we have to pay for it's flexibility and the amount of features it's packed with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Quick and easy setup with powerful customizations available"
What do you like best about Magento Open Source?

Magento does a lot right out of the box. Pick a theme, your payment/shipping options, load your products and you are ready to go. It is very easy to find magento expertise from the community if you need assistance Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Magento Open Source?

Some customizations can take a long time to develop. Part of this is due to lack of documentation or the complexity of the system itself Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Magento Open Source?

We can go ahead to implement our own feature and logic into existing community Edition. Only keep stick to the standard followed to override existing functionality and behavior with best practices to keep Magento installation healthy. Also there is already built-up magento extension free-paid which give various out of the box feature. "A steep learning curve, but it's worth it"
What do you like best about Magento Open Source?

It's flexibility - it can be used for practically everything. It's Open Source, so very likely it already exists (even though it might be for a price), and if it doesn't, you can create it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Magento Open Source?

It's by default pretty slow and required a lot of hardware and caching to make it usable. The optimizing itself is a pretty fun challenge though, one I personally like. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable solution for large stores"
What do you like best about Magento Open Source?

I loved that Magento, even the open source version, offers a lot of e-commerce features out of the box with very little effort required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Magento Open Source?

Magento has a pretty steep learning curve when it comes to coding and styling a new template. You must be familiar with it's custom template structure and xml blocks.

Also Magento is known as a big memory hog so performance issues may occur if you don't choose your infrastructure correctly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
