"DB2 Review "

What do you like best about IBM Db2?

DB2 is a very performant database system. I've used it on mainframes mostly which has it's own set of idiosyncrasies compared to a normal server version. It stores data quickly and uses a very standard set of SQL unlike Oracle who has tried to get everyone on their version SQL forever. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

It's old, which in a lot of cases makes it preferred, especially in DB's, you want all of the bugs worked out. In this case though, it's behind the times on a lot of newer features. It's only for enterprise customers, there is no way to work it into a small budget company's app. There is no auto sequence for id's, you have to query some sequence table and put it in the id column, you could use a trigger I guess but it could easily be done for you like oracle or others. "DB2 on z/OS for SAP "

What do you like best about IBM Db2?

We have over 75 SAP systems running on DB2 for z/OS. DB2 never crashes, the IBM tools for maintenance are acceptable, and scalability and availability are unmatched. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

My main dislike is there is not 3270 GUI emulator. You have to know how to navigate on a mainframe to support DB2 for z/OS, and that skill is hard to find these days. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Db2 solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about IBM Db2?

It's highly reliable, scalable and provide for the best reliability that business currently need. Normalization capabilities are built in with makes it much easier to get the task on hand completed without having to spent time on normalizing data or fields. What do you like best about IBM Db2?

DB2 automation tool does not works simply which was promising simplied automation. It does not directly unloads from flash memory which takes time for copy to copy sequential process.

What do you like best about IBM Db2?

DB2's key feature is that it can run on multiple platforms which is great in an environment overflowing with AIX, HP-UX, and Linux platforms. The fact it comes bundled with an OS saves the admin a lot of setup time since performance is already optimized. Self tuning memory management is like autopilot for our DBA to allocate memory in the right places, tuning our small db for the best performance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

When partitioning a table space, difficulty arises in updating indexes. You must delete a row and insert it with new values. Key values must be known and defined ahead of time as once they are committed, you can not roll them back. DB2's language is not as robust as Oracle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
