What do you like best about IBM Db2?

We had to cover IBM db2 as we were making a platform independent content management system for our high end customers. I had no problem porting the sql server and oracle database data and store procedures to db2. And I have heard v11 is really big on big data now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the ease of using the index adviser to tune your queries, using database specific functions like TRIM(), INT(), DIGITS, and others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

No Pivots, Fixed width fields (Even when declared as varchar), NULL characters (Due to EBCDIC encoding), EBCDIC encoding, ALL available editors, even their studio although better, still uses fixed width lines for text. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the fact that DB2 is a dependable, "well-seasoned" database management system from IBM.

I would say, it may be better to reformat the db2diag.log. Current format is not easy to look through, though this can be resolved with a little scripting work, but it's not so user friendly per my experience on both IBM and user side.

DB2 is extremely robust and due to IBM's purchase of Informix, it now contains many of the great features Informix has, while still being a separate RDBMS platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

When IBM bought Informix they plan was merge Informix into DB2, but since the Informix customers and community pleaded with IBM to not do it, it has half of some features, but not the full functionalities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

DB2 was often seen as the only real competitor to Oracle.
