What do you like best about IBM Db2?

DB2 works logically no matter which edition you choose. Express-c and express work the same as the more expensive editions, and it is not hard for an expert to figure out which edition works well in a given situation.

The user community around DB2 is both robust and friendly. Consultants readily share their expertise and mentor more junior DBAs. Blogs, developerWorks, and forums all provide places to share content and ask questions.

IBM shares the details of how features are implemented and the logic behind new features. A wealth of information is available about each new release.

DB2 is stable on a variety of platforms. Implementing maintenance, recovery strategies, and high availability strategies is straight-forward and the options are well-documented.

DB2 product documentation is robust, and once you understand the structure, not hard to use.

What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

Coming up with something that I dislike about DB2 is difficult. May of the things I might dislike are worse with other providers in my experience. Interacting with IBM support is frustrating for an experienced DB2 DBA, but not as bad for a newer DBA. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about IBM Db2?

The strong integration between the IBM product stack and DB2 is probably DB2's best feature. However, there needs to be a distinction between the various types of DB2 that run on i Series, z/OS, and other general Linux/Windows platforms. Knowing what platform DB2 will be running on doesn't make or break DB2 as a good RBDMS, but it does determine what features are available to the developer/DBA using the RDBMS. For example, IBM released BLU Acceleration for DB2, but it not available for DB2 running on i Series. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

I find the user interface known as Data Studio to be inferior to the development and management studios offered as part of other RDBMS software (SQL Developer for Oracle and Management Studio for SQL Server). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

pureScale and SQL arrays as far as the newer features of DB2 go. That and how long it's been apart of the IT community and the endless resources available to you for whatever issue comes your way. The DBA's at my organization have just recently begun to implement data solutions for lower environments (Dev, QA) using IBM Optim. It seems to be working well for us so far. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We have ongoing scaling issues and performance issues that are difficult to track down. Like most organizations, we feel stuck with our relational database solution of DB2 beacause of the effort to switch to a different database platform would be tremendous.

The user tools (query editor, basic maintenance) provided with DB2 don't seem to be as good as something like SQL Server. It's also extremely difficult to find 3rd party tools and utilities that work with DB2. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

DB2 is not only robust but is able to handle large volumes of data typically found in large corporations.
