Scale Computing Platform Overview

What is Scale Computing Platform?

Scale Computing was founded to fulfill an IT infrastructure need often hindered by the complexity, time, and resources that traditional virtualized IT environments demand. Today, Scale Computing delivers a platform solution for data center, edge computing, virtualization technology, and hyperconverged infrastructure to customers worldwide. Award-winning Scale Computing Platform eliminates the need for traditional virtualization software, disaster recovery software, servers, and shared storage, replacing these with a fully integrated, highly available system for running applications. 1. Simplicity Engineered Eliminate mundane management tasks and save IT administrators valuable time. SC//Platform's simplicity directly impacts IT with higher productivity and lower costs. Using patented HyperCore™ technology, the self-healing platform automatically identifies, mitigates, and corrects problems in the infrastructure in real time, enabling applications to achieve maximum uptime even when local IT resources and staff are scarce. 2. Scalable Plan the perfect future by not predicting it. Simply mix and match old and new hardware and applications on the same infrastructure for a future-proof environment that can scale up or down as needed. The storage system avoids issues inherent in traditional network storage approaches (SAN and NAS). By embedding storage with the hypervisor, resources can be automatically pooled across an entire cluster, and new storage is automatically added when new nodes are introduced. 3. Secure SC//Platform is designed to be 'Secure by Default,' meaning security isn't an option—it's a fundamental component ingrained in every aspect of the system. This approach eliminates the need for extensive configuration or additional security layers post-deployment. Unlike alternative solutions that require a long and complex “security best practices” checklist, SC//Platform limits the potential for misconfiguration vulnerabilities. 4. Manageable Scale Computing Fleet Manager combines centralized management with cloud and local automation, allowing infrastructure and applications to achieve and maintain the desired state throughout the entire life of the environment. Zero-touch provisioning decreases the time of installation by 90% or more Secure Link allows access to the HyperCore UI for in-depth cluster management with the click of a button without needing expensive or complex remote access solutions such as VPN or RDP Real-time monitoring of all workloads across a global fleet of SC//HyperCore clusters is made even easier with a searchable and customizable view 5. Cost-Effective Reduce IT infrastructure costs in almost every way. Hidden IT infrastructure costs associated with downtime, management, maintenance, training, and consulting are reduced to almost nothing. "Easy to configure, low maintenance, and nice recovery options."
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

The interface is excellent; it's simple and easy to see the overall status of your VMs at a glance. Creating, adding, copying, and deleting VMs couldn't be simpler. It's incredibly intuitive, and after your initial overview with support, you don't typically need to read documentation pages to dive in.

The recovery options have already saved us from a server issue. Their support and community online are a little bare-bones, but I've always been able to find what I need or get the help I need. Their support has always been friendly as well, and generally go out of their way to help even if they don't know the answer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Some of the recovery and backup options are not integrated into the platform as nicely. They use a third-party application (Acronis) for backup and recovery. It's not a dealbreaker, as it still sits on the application, but it has to be managed separately.

We also get notifications from time to time that snapshots cannot complete successfully. It typically takes work to get these working properly, and we had to create many separate schedules. I wish this were just an option that could be enabled, as it appears to be a common troubleshooting item with their support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Move to Scale HC3"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

Our complete data center environment runs on Scale, including our SQL platform. We have 40+ VMs running multiple RDS servers, WAP,

file servers, etc., on 4 Scale clusters. The setup was straightforward and takes up very little space on the rack. Happy with the performance

thus far. The support team has been quick to respond and very knowledgable Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

The copy and paste function from our local machine to a VM is challenging and would be very useful Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Amazing Product, Par Support"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

I feel that Scale Computing is a great "modern" platform for servers and virtual machines, in the sense that most everyday needs are right at your fingertips in an easy-to-consume and visualized fashion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

As long as you are familiar is virtual machines and how they work, things are nice, but the process was complex and support is lacking. There were issues getting things migrated into the platform, but the main issue was lack of in-client support. I understand that maybe the in-client support is currently under repair, but the fact we didn't know beforehand, and there wasn't a notice in the client is an issue.

When trying to contact support through the client, nothing would load past the initial splash page of the client. If we didn't have contact(s) to call, we might still be having issues now. Even our first contact's number didn't work out.

After finally getting in contact with someone, the process was smooth, so that was good. But in no way should it be that difficult to get in contact with someone for support. It may very well have been terrible timing with the client being down and our local contact being unavailable, but that doesn't change what actually happened. "Dependable VM infrastructure"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

As a growing company, our IT staff has recently grown to two individuals splitting the IT load along with our normal duties. For us, we need systems that are easy to manage and reliable. What we like most about Scale is that our VM platform doesn't need to be micromanaged. New deployments are much quicker and easier than our old VM platform. If I had to put a number to it, I would say we spend 75%-85% less time managing our VM platform after switching to Scale. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

I would say for us, the two biggest dislikes of Scale are: 1. You can't map a physical device to a VM. This limitation for us was self-imposed based on a legacy workflow and wasn't a huge issue to overcome. 2. I didn't buy enough storage capacity. This is a me issue that I have been fighting by reducing the number of snapshots I am keeping. Scale does a great job of de-duping, but don't be shy about buying as much storage capacity as possible. "I'm pretty new with it, but it already has saved me a ton of work"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

It's easy to provision systems, but even easier to clone them so you only have to do your build one time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

We had a number of problems getting the network up and going like we needed it, so all setup had to be done via console directly connected. It seems a lot of this was due to the Cisco switches and not our Scale nodes, but they all came as a package deal for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Integration using our VAR was quick and simple"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

Coming from a VMWare environment, the Scale Dashboard is very easy to understand and maneuver. The entry level to the experienced technician can maneuver easily through the system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

At this time I haven't been able to find anything that I really do not like. We implemented the system and have only needed to make a few tweaks to help increase performance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"One of the best decisions made."
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

In a small organization, maintenance free systems win above all else. SCALE has this down pat. Firmware upgrades are mostly automated and have caused zero downtime in our environment so far. I've only had to talk to support 2-3 times a year on minor issues and this is also a blessing when I have 500+ users to support in addition to rest of our infrastructure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

The minor complaints I do have is that in exchange for ease of use you don't get to see the nitty gritty metrics. The lack of backup API's makes it difficult to use most solutions as you have to treat each VM as a physical machine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Scale is simple and intuitive"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

The most helpful feature of Scale is its single control panel, where you can manage your entire virtual infrastructure. The entire cluster can be viewed and managed from a single-pane of glass. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Command line level of access to the cluster would be excellent; that is my only dislike, as it seems that Scale does not trust its customers with full access to the equipment they purchased. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great way to Centralize your Servers!"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

I like the dashboard that shows me all of the servers and their status and resources being used. It is easy to connect and log into each of my VMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

The sizing of the screens once I log into a VM is a challenge sometimes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great support, simply acquisition process, stellar performance"
What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

Being able to stand up a POC quickly and with the kind of workloads we wanted to model is important to us. Having access to US-based support and having a single point of contact for all things speeds up resolution and reduces frustration Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Sometimes it took longer to book our engineering appointments and that speaks to their growth. They need to hire more post-sales engineers and trainers to meet demand. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
