What do you like best about Oracle Solaris?

I love the huge performance & stability, and the scalability of Solaris, and its advanced features (e.g., DTrace, virtualization, ZFS, and others). Because it is a mature Unix, it could run a wide variety of major software, as well as open-source software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Solaris?

The market has largely left them behind. Solaris is now a niche operating system on niche hardware. The chief users are large installations with existing enviornments that cannot or will not be migrated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you have an existing investment in SPARC hardware, or Solaris sysadmin skills, you may wish to stay on Oracle Solaris. We found the economic factors overwhelming, and switched to RHEL on VMware. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Oracle Solaris?

It is good for financial database management. Because of isolation it can keep the database separate. Network security is very good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Oracle Solaris?

The malware protection security is provided right from the hypervisor to the applications hosted in the OS.

Easily integrated on cloud and management is easier.

You can also move some legacy applications running on very old version to the latest one. After moving it to the new versions, the upgrades to the packages are shown which can be updated manually and any changes easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The support when any third party integration comes in is could be well documented.

The documentation sometimes doesn't contain what you would be looking for.

The old solaris version is nowhere compared to the latest release.

It provides built in support for oracle database which makes you to host already existing application hassle free.

It also homes the java applications which are available readily on the OS.
