What do you like best about IBM Db2?

DB2 is all about performance and control. We run it on an iSeries AS/400, version 5 revision 4. You get a lot of tools and a lot of in-depth access if you want it, as well as very good performance compared to most engines out there, mainly because, at least on the AS/400, the DB is part of the OS instead of being a ran program. What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

FETCH FIRST 1 ROWS ONLY - instead of LIMIT. 0/1 instead of TRUE/FALSE (again, I am speaking from a v5r4 view). Weird act-ups sometimes, like a SUM containing a division of DECIMAL will return an integer in a SELECT and a DECIMAL in an UPDATE. The constant need for CAST. A DECIMAL(4,2) multiplied by a DECIMAL(4,2) has to be CAST down to a DECIMAL(4,2) manually, each time. Else, overflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about IBM Db2?

DB2 offers a lot of performance options that can be tweaked from SAS (Most of my use of DB2 is done through a SAS to DB2 connector).

DB2 BLU is also a great improvement on a somewhat older technology. It really brought the DB2 system up to par with newer versions of competitors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Db2?

What do you like best about IBM Db2?

I like high availability and scalability features, which allow me to separate the data while getting secure DB solution and paying only for the time and disk space I use. I also like creation DB withing taking care about underlying OS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I can only compare with AWS and GCP. I feel the solution is not so mature from user interface, so there is some opportunities for improvements. Howerever, becides that I still thik the solution is really good and can cover all my business cases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The IBM DB2 database is of the cool new technologies through which one can easily create a database on the cloud without having to worry about any operating system and does not have any limitation. Well I have used both the Amazon RedShift and the IBM DB2 instance and just feel that implementation wise it is a little tougher to implement when compared to AWS. However it also is a robust platform supporting major day to day operations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Db2, at times, reverts back to inefficient methods when upgrades are applied. for the most part, this has been due to lack of testing by the vendor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Clunky dated interface. Slow load times when loading schemas in the DB manager. Not having full control to terminate queries I started. The documentation has little useful information or is confusing. If you are writing ad hoc queries Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Database is very easy to learn for everyone interesting fact about db2 is it distributes and remembers the location of each track.
