What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

One of the few platforms available where I was able to automatically assess Unity capabilities. Also monthly subscription with no cancellation fees was very useful! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

Not a lot. Perhaps it would have been useful to have to pre-populated full tests for platforms such as Unity. As no one else in the team has Unity experience, we didn't need to pick and choose parts of an assessmnent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

The actual environment for the developers that allows for a very controlled review. Frankly I loved Session Replay to understand what has truly happened while the developer was conducting the test. The selection of tests is pretty extensive and the functionality covers a lot of topics. Will certainly use it again when looking for additional developers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

Dislike is maybe a strong word. I guess it's more the question what did and did not work for use. The actual scores were not very helpful. Something a minor issue kept an otherwise good solution from working. The ones that just looked up the solution and then typed the result in the editor scored often better than the ones that actually tried to solve the problem. Thus often the ones that had a good, but not the highest score were the actual good devs.

It's hard to pick good tests. Which has nothing to do with CoderByte by the way. It's just hard to find something that is a) easy enough to be done in a reasonable time, b) hard enough to see whether the dev is good and c) hard to find when searching for it in Google. CoderByte detects copying and invites people to use the inline-search. But there is just no way of knowing whether the developer just has another tab open and looks things up (and then copies the code).

To really get most of CoderByte you really need to spend a decent amout of time reviewing the results. Use Session Replay to check what they did (there you always see, whether they just copied the solution or not), how did they tackle the problem, what did they try out.

For us it was really helpful, but only because we did spend a lot of time on the results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

I liked that there were many different coding challenges that assesses different technical skills. I could go through the their extensive set of coding challenges and customize the assessment easily for our needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

I found the UI of the entire website to be a bit confusing. Since I couldn't 'filter' different coding challenges based on their tags, which could've simplified selecting coding challenges, I had to go through each test manually. There were a few coding challenges where the test results were too polarizing (10 or 0). One thing that could've been helpful was a way to re-order or order coding challenges after selecting them (before and after the assessment was active) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

Coderbyte really helped us screen candidates, get an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and drastically improved our hiring process. This was definitely our most meaningful programmer hiring process yet! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

I wish there were more options for customizing their pre-made coding challenges. They have some great tests but being able to modify their existing ones would be a huge plus. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

Easy to use, and I like that they capture the video of the user taking the problem. The report was easy to read. The assessment worked well for Data Analysts with SQL questions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

It has problems catching cheaters and doesn't seem to have questions that cannot easily find answers online. I have a candidate that passed the test, and after failing the in-office interview, admits that he copied the answer to get past the screener question. We want a tool where we can give a bunch of candidates somewhat challenging questions they can't easily cheat on. It would be great to get questions that only Coderbyte has, and it was difficult to find such questions on the sample questions. For SQL question which generally you cannot find the answer online word for word, it is very effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
