What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

There's a decent amount of curated code test challenges. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

It's not obvious what the test cases are for the code tests so I feel like candidates aren't be treated in a fair way where they understand all cases they're being evaluated on. However mostly I signed up for this to do coding projects and there's no library of coding projects to hand out. This is effectively a CMS for coding projects rather than a library of vetted material. The vetting of material is what costs me an enormous amout of time and laying out webpages and emails is something I can do in my sleep. I also found the interface somewhat clunky and buggy for something fairly new. My main criteria for a tool like this is: does it save me time. It failed to do that. What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

I like how easy is to send to the candidate and receive the outcomes. Super simple, easy to generate new projects, nice visuals. Also good experience for the candidate. Also the outcomes they come in in a very nice way to understand if the person is good or not. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

Nothing so far honestly. It really makes my life easier. Everything works very well, there is nothing I do not like at all, the product is very well done.

I need to use it more maybe to see areas of improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

Candidates Screening With Proctoring with Anti cheating and plagiarism detector.

Reports post-screening is an excellent way to get everything in place and a sharable format. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

I can't make notes of candidates traits in between interview session which led me to forget some of the things happened during the interview.

TestCases in the Coding is not too hard on time complexity or Space Complexity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Nis Frome of Coderbyte for Employers

Thanks, Ujjwal.

You've given us a great idea about taking notes during interviews, and our product team is currently working on making this possible.

As for code complexity, we're happy to hear that you find this capability so informative. Because BigO is somewhat of a theoretical property of a function, we don't think it's fair or practical to automatically score based on it. However, we're always looking into smarter scoring techniques.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

We use Coderbyte for all technical candidate screening and assessment. We've tried and worked with several alternatives, but Coderbyte combines some key features that we've not found together in other products:

* Assessments can combine code tests, open questions, multiple-choice, etc.

* Any combination of technologies, at various levels of difficulty, can be included in an assessment

* We can try out any test before including it in an assessment - this is super-helpful

* Replay candidate actions and test results

* Candidates have the means to write code, provide test data and run predefined tests without any installation or time-consuming setup Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

We have had a couple of projects with slightly 'exotic' technologies not represented in existing tests, Scala being an example. On balance, though, I prefer the quality of assessments, and in this instance, we were able to make up with some Java code assessments and more focus on algorithms, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

I would typically spend a lot of time just checking the basic programming skills of any developer before moving to the next round of interviews. It is costly as any candidate you ask. If they know the program, they would answer a YES by default, but only 1 out of 10 can fluently write the basic syntax.

What I like

- The recording of how the coder proceeds

- How many times did the coder leave the screen Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

Notification of any candidate clears or gets more than a certain % directly to my chat app. In the case of Medly, we use Slack.

OR

custom notification that I can configure myself, so I don't have to log into the app to check what is happening. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Nis Frome of Coderbyte for Employers

Thank you for the helpful review and feedback. We have found that many of our customers love our screen recording integration with SessionRewind.com!

As for custom notifications, this is possible with our Zapier integration: https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/how-do-i-configure-a-slack-integration

Enjoy!

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

- the ability to send compensation to candidates easily Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

- the workflow for editing and setting up a Project was a bit unclear

- for a Project with an open-ended time frame/no limit, it seems like there' s no way for the candidate to get back to the form they opened from the invite email, so none of them yet have used the actual, intended submission flow — they just email us that they're done with a link to the repo. I think if they close the tab they can't be back to that page w/ the submission process? As a result, we have a bunch of candidates listed as "In Progress" who have actually completed the project, but there's no way for me to manually change their status. I'd also like to manually remove candidates like my teammates, who we added so they could help review they whole UX that a candidate experiences. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Coderbyte for Employers?

It's automated, so very little need for me to do anything to be able to get better-qualified candidates into our pipeline. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Coderbyte for Employers?

1) I have no official way to benchmark my internal people so that I can ensure I hire similarly skilled people or hire for my weaknesses

2) I cannot tweak exercises to have different tests, scores or weights. C# is more important to my company, I'd love to give that a 70% weighting towards the score

3) A candidate can change their email when I send a link, this causes problems with our ATS system when they use an email we don't have on file

4) I don't know what an "average" score is for the industry

5) I can't mark update people with information gained later in the process. It would be valuable to learn that people who score on average 63%-67% fail a later stage and so we should raise our bar for passing slightly

6) Some tests are too stringent, a certain React test will score 0/10 if the candidate prepopulates data in the wrong place. The rest of their code may be functional, but one mistake causes them to get a very bad score. Ideally, we should be able to add/configure/weight test cases for what we find to be valuable. Response from Nis Frome of Coderbyte for Employers

We're happy that you're getting so much value from Coderbyte and appreciate your feedback.

1. That's a very interesting point. We recommend inviting your own engineers to Coderbyte as candidates to benchmark the difficulty of your assessments.

2. We're working on improving weighting and customization for scoring. We appreciate your patience.

3. If you use private instead of public invite links, candidates will not be able to change their email address. https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/how-do-you-invite-candidates-to-an-assessment

If you use our Zapier integration, it will automatically send private invite links. https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/coderbyte-api-access

4. You can learn more about average scores here: https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/benchmarking-statistics-graph

5. This is a very interesting idea and we're talking to our product team about it.

6. Unfortunately certain test cases can cascade so that if a candidate gets something critical wrong, all subsequent test cases will fail. We're always looking for ways to improve scoring though.
