I'm guessing you're a visual learner, so your best option is to study the right titles in an online training library (I highly recommend LinkedIn Learning) and do the exercises. Deke McLelland's Photoshop titles on LIL will take you from beginner to highly professional if you do them in sequence and diligently. His "One-on-One" books for Photoshop and Illustrator are also well worth adding to your bookshelf. You should try to connect up with a Photoshop User Group in your area, too. You're likely to find plenty of people who are more than willing to be helpful.
