Why do we have to say that we are on a recorded line?

I am wondering about this question because it is really important to me. I want to know the specific reasons on why I would have to say that. Yes my sales have increased since I have started saying but, I have had a couple situations where I have lost trust with them because I had to say that I am on a recorded line.

Hi Connor! There are legal reasons for this — US Federal law requires one-party consent, enabling you to record a conversation in person or over the phone, but only if you are participating in the conversation. Each state has different rules around this, and some are stricter than others. For the EU, GDPR Rules for recording telephone calls require consent to be provided by an affirmative action. Silence or inactivity is no longer sufficient.
