It's scalability - we have used it for enterprise clients and small start-ups alike. It isn't bloated which means it's lightweight - you can effectively use it headless if needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Market penetration (outside of Australia/NZ) is still relatively low. That can be a barrier for clients and procurement teams - many of whom will not have heard of it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's an incredibly flexible platform that we've worked with for over 10 years building everything from microsites to digital products. It offers a high level of security and a fantastic user experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It lacks presence in the UK, despite being very popular in Europe and it's native New Zealand. And it's marketing website really doesn't do the platform justice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Silverstripe is probably one of the best alternatives to Wordpress. It is secure, highly customizable and a flexible CMS to create and maintain websites as well as web applications. It gives you real control over the most complicated and complex websites. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Silverstripe has dropped support for Internet Explorer in December 2021, and while it may sound like a legitimate move, that was not a desirable move. Moreover, sometimes when you upgrade to a newer version, you've to shell some money out of your pocket to use all the fresh features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Easy to use, 100% customizable, you have the hand on ANY HTML output and it's based on the MVC design pattern, so it's clearly OOP, with easy autocompleting. ".ss" extension is probably one of the best I've used as well. I've made modules probly more easily than on any other CMS (beside Drupal 8). When it comes to explain to my clients how to administrate their websites, they rarely come back to me after that. Upgrading is quite easy as well. The administration is really easy to understand, you can add custom tabs almost anywhere and manage almost any types of fields (varchar, text, boolean, file). File uploading is easy as well, form submissions is a real peace of cake.
I also really like their beginner tutorial, it covers almost everything Silverstripe offers out of the box. Their documentation is quite easy to manage as well and their API does the job!

Sadly, the community is a bit small, the forum is even a bit left behind for a slack channel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I liked how straightforward the UI was of this CMS. It was refreshing coming from Wordpress where its so overcomplicated. I felt like I only saw what I needed to and didn't have too many features available that I'd never touch. Navigating through the CMS was easy as well. User-friendly all around. As an Account Manager, I had to work more with my development team for any serious changes. In other CMS's I've used I could customize things a bit more. I found myself calling upon help of my dev for those times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like how simplified the UI was. You really only had access to exactly what you needed. Unlike WordPress where you have unlimited options that you never touch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not as customizable. Sometimes I wanted to make some edits on appearance and was unable to. You have to push everything to your development team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Highly customizable and extensible CMS unlike many of the blog like CMSs like WordPress out there. Comes with a framework and CMS. CMS interface is quite intuitive. Site can be customized to perform any feature imaginable. PHP based. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Does have a high learning curve but worth it once it's learned. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The CMS is both easy to use for content managers and developers to work in. The sitetree is a feature of the CMS that many others do not have and make it very easy and understandable for managers to visualize their site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not a lot of pre-built themes or templates available like for other CMS's like Wordpress. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
