SAS Base is incredibly reliable when it comes to handling large datasets. The DATA step and PROC SQL give you so much control and flexibility, and once you get the hang of it, you realize how powerful it really is for data manipulation, cleaning, and reporting. I also like that it's been around for a long time—it’s stable, well-documented, and widely trusted in regulated industries like healthcare and banking Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The syntax has a learning curve, especially if you're coming from R or Python. It’s also a bit outdated in terms of modern IDE features, unless you're using something like SAS Studio or integrating it with VS Code. Licensing costs can be a hurdle for small organizations or individual learners, too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The underlying SAS language continues to be the strongest selling point for SAS Data Management. It's ability to transform and manipulate data still presents a compelling offering. Additionally legacy SAS code is more or less guaranteed to run without too much manipulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
1. Lack of enterprise scheduling capabilities. I do not understand how SAS Data Management addresses the operation issues of deployment such as scheduling. Is SAS providing homegrown capabilities or will scheduling be more of an integration play, say with other technologies like Apache Airflow.
2. How can flow be easily promoted from environment to environment.
3. How can existing SAS 9 flows be easily realized in SAS Data Management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Standardized language for data analysis, manipulation, and visualization.
Easy to modify and adapt the code once I understand the basic syntax for the most common functions I use.
Some of the rigorous data analysis required to check for data quality and missing data are easier to do in SAS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Challenging initial learning curve, especially for people who hate coding.
Does not feel like my go-to solution every time, because it takes more time to build a workflow that is accurate and consistent, compared to other tools like Microsoft Excel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is no feedback available while accessing application, which makes it so much helpful especially when we want to gain confidence on our programming skills. In addition, this software is so much fast as it doesn't contain much features to access in it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nonetheless, its an base version so all the cool features of latest SAS applications would not be available, still there is nothing to dislike about SAS. Its like a saying "Old is Gold". Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
it is the product I learned to use SAS with. I thought this was the ONLY sas for years. It handles data and data management better than any other product I have used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It doesn't get the latest tools and now seems like it's taking a back seat to many of the other products sas is producing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I learned how to program in BASE so, it is the most familiar. It can allow for cleaning of data which can allow you to go on to do better things with your data. It also allows me to learn how the programing language acutally works - like how it goes from one row to another. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is not very user friendly for those who are just starting out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It allows legacy sas9.4 programmers the ability to relatively easily transition to newer products and helps teachers (like me) provide student access to something similar to what I learned on 25+ years ago. It also provides access to some of the advanced features that 9.4 doesn't provide at the moment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Although the web access is great, it isn't as easy to manage files as the older system is, IMHO. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The consistency. My code from ten years ago still works while I always have problems with my R or python codes due to the packages being updated. The continuous updates and improvements of my SAS platform brought new capabilities while my written codes, especially my macro function catalog, stayed stable and consistent. the windowing interface, but I solved this using the enterprise guide as my coding interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
