Description

PostgreSQL is a powerful, open source object-relational database system. It has more than 15 years of active development and a proven architecture that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, data integrity, and correctness. It runs on all major operating systems, including Linux, UNIX (AIX, BSD, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, Mac OS X, Solaris, Tru64), and Windows. It is fully ACID compliant, has full support for foreign keys, joins, views, triggers, and stored procedures (in multiple languages). It includes most SQL:
008 data types, including INTEGER, NUMERIC, BOOLEAN, CHAR, VARCHAR, DATE, INTERVAL, and TIMESTAMP. It also supports storage of binary large objects, including pictures, sounds, or video. It has native programming interfaces for C/C++, Java, .Net, Perl, Python, Ruby, Tcl, ODBC, among others, and exceptional documentation.

An enterprise class database, PostgreSQL boasts sophisticated features such as Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC), point in time recovery, tablespaces, asynchronous replication, nested transactions (savepoints), online/hot backups, a sophisticated query planner/optimizer, and write ahead logging for fault tolerance. It supports international character sets, multibyte character encodings, Unicode, and it is locale-aware for sorting, case-sensitivity, and formatting. It is highly scalable both in the sheer quantity of data it can manage and in the number of concurrent users it can accommodate. There are active PostgreSQL systems in production environments that manage in excess of 4 terabytes of data.

What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is undoubtedly one of the most well-known and used database servers.

OPEN SOURCE

One of the main reasons for using PostgreSQL is that it is developed under open source (Open Source), we can find it available on its official website and download it without any cost. also has a MULTIPLATAFORMA

If we require a database to work on our project, the most common is that we ask what database to use that gives us performance, security and in turn we can use it both in the office and outside of it, and one of the Most common cases is that we do not all have the same operating system. And here is another reason to use PostgreSQL: we will not have to worry about this detail anymore, because it is available in virtually all versions of Unix operating systems and also for Windows, giving us the opportunity to have it installed locally, make a remote connection to through your PgAdmin administrator or also from the application you are developing. What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

This compared to MySQL is slower in insertions and updates, since it has intersection headers that do not have MySQL.

Online support: There are official forums, but there is no mandatory help.

It consumes more resources than MySQL.

The sintaxtis of some of its commands or statements is not intuitive at all.

These are some of the annoying things about PostgreSQL. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

that this is a database server that by all the features already presented is good to use it for all the benefits that it has when creating a database Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

is a free relational object database server, since it includes features

of object orientation, such as inheritance, data types, functions, restrictions,

triggers, rules and transactional integrity, released under the BSD license. Like many others

open source projects, the development of PostgreSQL is not managed by a single company but rather

is run by a community of developers and commercial organizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

We went for the paid version but is pricey but thats just one part - the postgres DB actually wants you to learn their own syntax which takes time of you are new Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

Highly recommend but you need to learn the language Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

We replaced it from IBM db2 and it seems like It connects with many applications easily. We are using it to integrate with in house python applications and works perfect. However we haven’t actually signed off with this application officially but it is under due consideration Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

It is usually difficult to install linux operating system since it must be installed manually using the command console and indicate in which sites the installer file is located, it also tends to be flawed when it has multiple databases or when a database It is very small since it is indicated and developed for a large data base. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

is a very useful tool and its advantage is that totally free that will work to manage database of great information for systems in both web development environment and desktop environment as they are developed in java is light when installing and you do not need more resources for its execution, however, the system usually becomes a bit heavy depending on the number of information it manages and the way in which it is managed correctly. I worked to use this database with the system and extensive information that our client needs and are developed in turn is implemented and integrated with several tools for developing programs such as netbeans and eclipse. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

It is a super fast tool and the best of all for free to manage database of large volume or size; it is compactible for both windows and other operating systems. Its configuration is easy and its functionality is surprising since it allows you to manage a database of data that contains multiple tables in a fast and secure way to access the information asks you to log in and has an endless file format to save the information. in database that are not large, or it is usually slow search or may even fail, you need some plugins or components to integrate with other software which makes it a bit difficult to configure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

I recommend this database administrator for its quick way of installation and configuration in turn for the way to administer the tables and database because it allows to interlace tables and have a better response quickly and without any error. It works both for proprietary operating systems or open source, and you do not need to have a large computer to use this tool because it does not consume much requirements. What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

This management system offers performance characteristics that have evolved over time. Also its use and constant review of the developer community have made it one of the most stable systems in terms of open source refers to. The graphical environment offered by Pgadmin allows an intuitive and easy to manage administration. If you have used other database administration systems, the adaptation to Postgre SQL will be very fast and little traumatic. The SQL statement editor is very practical, which allows to perform the operations most commonly used in any database. Finally, the backups and recovery of databases are carried out quickly and in a few steps. The reliability of this function is very high. Particularly, during the time I have been using this manager I have not presented any type of error or catastrophic loss Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

The main hosting providers do not support database of this management system. The big corporations still have resistance for the use of this manager. The support is provided by the developer community, which produces long periods of time to resolve. It does not have an error identification and traceability mechanism. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

Free technologies are not necessarily unstable. If you require a database management system with good security features, information integrity for a medium volume of transactions, try PostgreSQL Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

In countries where the use of free technologies is encouraged, great benefits can be obtained because there are no additional payments for user licenses and the client owns the generated code, which allows its administration and modification without inconvenience. What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is fast and available with very small latencies on most clouds. I believe it's a SQL taste, particularly compatible with my coding style and a straightforward natural query interface. It operates robustly and can be easily distributed without crashing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

Postgres is perfect to say it has no flaws and we can't ask for Oracle's scope or features because, as a consequence, this instrument is safe. However, for example, the other tools aren't the only ones I saw and don't like. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

From our experience, we had to question the introduction of several tables and use one of the Database Supervisor's characteristics to present important company information. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
