Description

PostgreSQL is a powerful, open source object-relational database system. It has more than 15 years of active development and a proven architecture that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, data integrity, and correctness. It runs on all major operating systems, including Linux, UNIX (AIX, BSD, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, Mac OS X, Solaris, Tru64), and Windows. It is fully ACID compliant, has full support for foreign keys, joins, views, triggers, and stored procedures (in multiple languages). It includes most SQL:
008 data types, including INTEGER, NUMERIC, BOOLEAN, CHAR, VARCHAR, DATE, INTERVAL, and TIMESTAMP. It also supports storage of binary large objects, including pictures, sounds, or video. It has native programming interfaces for C/C++, Java, .Net, Perl, Python, Ruby, Tcl, ODBC, among others, and exceptional documentation.

An enterprise class database, PostgreSQL boasts sophisticated features such as Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC), point in time recovery, tablespaces, asynchronous replication, nested transactions (savepoints), online/hot backups, a sophisticated query planner/optimizer, and write ahead logging for fault tolerance. It supports international character sets, multibyte character encodings, Unicode, and it is locale-aware for sorting, case-sensitivity, and formatting. It is highly scalable both in the sheer quantity of data it can manage and in the number of concurrent users it can accommodate. There are active PostgreSQL systems in production environments that manage in excess of 4 terabytes of data.

What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

This database manager called PostgreSQL is the database engine of today. with great features that will allow you to handle large volumes of information, which makes it the most powerful and robust Free Code Database Management System on the market. this manager infinitely type of fields, works with the technology of triggers sentences. allows you to perform backup and restoration of the database by tables or complete. and it is compactible with a variety of operating systems including windows and linux. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

a great disadvantage for us users of this platform is that postgresql is slow when inserting data or updating information in very small databases, since this has been designed with the ability to handle large and inferior volumes is often complex use for small systems. This tool despite being one of the most robust in the market has a deficit in terms of technical support we refer, because at the time of presenting errors this tool we only have support group forums with people who use and have solved said problem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

I recommend the use and installation of this database manager is very safe first to encrypt the information you want in such a way that it is difficult to steal your information. This database manager is integrated to different software developers and programming languages such as java, php, c ++, c, html5 among others. this software is compactible for both windows and linux. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

It is a tool that we manage a lot in the company because we have extensive technical support systems where we need to recompile user information and it is consulted quickly and this database has allowed us to improve the quality of the system with its great features. What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

is a database manager that offers us more than creating database is oriented to objects, that is, all the elements of our database will be able to be treated as objects, something similar to a programming language. in the same way it can be said that it is multisystem, therefore PostgreSQL can be installed in Microsoft Windows, GNU / Linux, MacOS, BSD and many other operating systems.

PostgreSQL is scalable and can handle huge databases, of more than 100 Terabytes and it works under a free license, we can use it for any purpose without any problem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is slower when it comes to insertions and updates, similarly the response it offers when the databases are small may seem a little deficient, compared with MySQL consumes more resources, also some commands and syntax are not intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

PostgreSQL is a free software object-oriented relational database server, published under the BSD license. My recommendation is very simple because this or its function as I said before is related to creating databases that have rows and that this function is to save data this is very important is any field because if you have a wide information that to keep this what it does is to facilitate us the work for that it is good for each programmer to know and to use different database manager so that he knows which one he likes the most Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

for me the best of PostgresSQL and what I like most is that it is multiplatform, this helps me a lot with the work that I have to use both free software and Windows in some cases as applications with postgres use. and since it is multiplatform I can install it in one environment and the other without problem and without saying that it is free and it is one of the best database engines today.

Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

What I like about PostgreSQL is that when I use it for small applications the queries are a bit slow compared to MySql, so I use simple applications with PhpMyAdmin and the more robust ones with postgresql, because in this sense it is better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

My opinion is that they keep working the way they are doing and keep it free and free for medium and low volume applications and if they can improve the support and integrate it into the application it would be very good for us end users although Postgres has a very active community with forums and debates on how to use it and this makes it have good support and support in the present and future

Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

Well the biggest benefit I've seen is the opposite to what I do not like postgres is that with large and robust applications that require a good search engine and greater responsiveness and with Postgresql I have been able to solve these difficulties without cost applications with large consumption of resources in transactions in queries with statements and stored procedures to the database, and with the issue of security is also a very big benefit with postgresql Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

One of the main reasons why I use PostgreSQL is that it is developed under open source (Open Source), besides that if we require a database to work on our project, the most common is that we ask ourselves which database to use provide performance, security and in turn we can use it both in the office and outside it, and one of the most common cases is that we do not all have the same operating system. It also has a management facility PgAdmin is the main base administrator Postgres data is very simple to use, this tool practically does everything with a few simple clicks, being optimal for people who do not have much experience, either because they are starting in the world of databases or because they simply need a database for your project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL It is relatively slow there are things like these that I also dislike in insertions and updates in small databases, also PostgreSQL is designed for high volume environments. This makes the response speed seem slow compared to small databases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PostgreSQL:

As we can see when using PostgreSQL we obtain security, reliability, stability and the opportunity to improve and provide functional developments to make an even more optimal database manager. These simple reasons are more than enough to place Postgres among the main options to take into account when working with databases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

Higher performance. Greater speed both when connecting to the server and serving selects and others.

Better administration utilities (backup, error recovery, etc).

Even if it hangs up, it does not usually lose information or corrupt the data.

Better integration with PHP.

There are no limits on the size of the records.

Better access control, in the sense of which users have access to which tables and with which permissions.

MySQL behaves better than Postgres when modifying or adding fields to a "hot" table. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
