"Great IDE"

What do you like best about PhpStorm?

Great themes available for both light and dark settings.

PHP code completion is very responsive and accurate. Even older applications seem to work well with this feature.

Works great with TypeScript and Angular as well.

XDebug also works great with PHPStorm's "zero configuration" debug setup. Very handy.

VCS support is great with GIT.

When I brainstorm a better way of completing a task, PHPStorm usually can accommodate. Many features and configurations. Typically I do Symfony development and the code completion is great. But what's more impressive is I also work with a legacy system that uses old PHP 4/PHP 5 code that is a nightmare. I was pleasantly surprised how well PHPStorm could pick up the functions and globals in a mess of includes. I recently switched from using git command line to the VCS feature in PHPStorm and it has saved me a good deal of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PhpStorm?

Sometimes it eats up a good amount of ram. Not sure why but some projects make the CPU jump as well. If you have a powerful enough computer this shouldn't be a problem. I have run multiple instances with 4GB of ram no problem. Make sure you get the 64bit version if you have more than 4GB. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I code many plugins for large applications so having the tools that PHPStorm provides speeds up my development time dramatically. I used to be a big believer in text editors, but PHPStorm with XDebug and code completion can't be matched. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Love PHPStorm"

What do you like best about PhpStorm?

Code Completion . Built in Git, FTP. automatic deployment, built in PHPUnit testing , built in web server, error highlighting, SASS support, file Diff, database access, all without leaving the IDE. ,,, and that is only 20% of the features. Love that it runs on both Mac and Windows so I don't have to switch machines to work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PhpStorm?

Some very trivial minor UI issues, for example, it takes too many steps to rename a file or folder. The language for opening folder in Explorer view isn't standard so it takes me a half a second more to find the right option. Very trivial.

Wasn't a fan of the move to a subscription model, but having just reviewed the costs because of this survey I'm going to switch over. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:

Just try the 30-day trial. I tried a lot of different IDEs over the years and none have come close to supporting all the features of PHPStorm. For small projects or quick edits I'll use Microsoft Code just for simplicity. For everything else, it's PHPStorm. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?

Finding and IDE that works with me. Have tried a lot and keep an eye out for new IDEs, but I still come back to PHPStorm. What do you like best about PhpStorm?

User friendly interface, smart code completion, many integrated tools, many plugins available to use different frameworks with. It can be used on both PHP and HTML only or JS projects. It has a premium integration with modern PHP or JS frameworks. Just pick-up a plugin or click an option to add framework support! You can interact with GitHub and work on pending tasks. Code versioning user interface works like a charm. You also can customize your user interface. It has an intelligent code completion when using frameworks. You can deploy to your different environnements (local, testing or production) just on one click. It has a great files or folders comparing tool Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PhpStorm?

Some plugins aren't up to date, but most of time they because integrated in the IDE and I never managed to simply use remote debugging. It needs quite a lot of computer resources. You have to restart the IDE on every plugin update Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use this software for all my CMS projects (using WordPress or Drupal) and web projects (using CakePHP, ZendFramework, simply HTML5+CSS3 or JS orojects). I can work on both simple and more complex projects. Configuration is easy, versioning support is perfect, so I can focus on code and I'm not worried about 3rd tiers tools integration. What do you like best about PhpStorm?

Best things about PHPStorm are

- Key Map Customization: Literally you can customize every available action. It help most if you came from other IDE or Editor and want to keep your old key map style.

- Search: PHPStorms Search functionality is like Google of IDE. You can search any file, function, text insistently. You do not need to move your hand from keyboard and you can browse any part of your project.

- Refactoring: Refactoring was never easy like refactoring in PHPStorm.

- It support a great deal of integration like Git, Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket, Npm, Grunt, Gulp, Vagrant. If anything does not come by default, you'll find a plugin for that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PhpStorm?

There are two things I do not like about PHPStorm. These are:

- PHPStorm is bulky product. It takes 5-10 seconds to load and for large size project the loading time increase.

- Subscription based purchase: The idea of subscription based purchase of the product seems very odd to me, specially for individual developers. The whole community reacted when JetBrain declared their new subscription policy and the price is too high. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:

I can say without hesitation that PHPStorm is the best IDE for professional PHP developers. It provide every facility a developer need.
