APEX is very customizable from a functionality standpoint. It can handle almost every logical issue with the help of a custom package and functions/procedures. I also really like that we can build in custom reports that are delivered when we deploy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I've found that APEX can be a bit glitchy when I'm trying to customize the layout within templates. Simple things like centering reports without taking a lot of time to write custom css, turn out to be a bit frustrating. Also, practical documentation is really hard to come by. Many people who do my job have no formal appdev training, and trust on trial and error as we go. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Apex is a great way to turn paper processes into a digital solution. It can connect to the SIS and other connections easily and once you have experience can turn out small to mid sized applications quickly. Product allows for a great variety and gives our developers a lot of different options when developing an application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There can be a steep learning curve to the program. It can take my developers 2-3 development until they have a grasp on what the software can do and how to use it effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

- It is unlike any other development IDE out there, so takes a while to get used to (steep learning curve)
- some developers might prefer more control on the environment - all is possible - but developers have strict preferences
- it is running PL/SQL, and doesn't quite follow the MVC framework - though it is based on how you as a developer builds up the code Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The page designer view was pretty easy to learn, with a window giving a rough idea of how your page would look when run. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Most of the error messages that would get thrown had little to no explanation, just an error code. It often took me a long time to find a solution to the error searching through Oracle forums. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
With APEX, I'm able to easily spin up a user-facing application that allows them to view/update/add information and interact with our data warehouse systems without requiring them to know how to code.
Allows me to build web apps for user interaction without having to worry about the user authentication side of the house.
The REST functionality allows me to communicate with outside services and include their data with the information presented to the user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The steep learning curve is my greatest issue with this software.
Some of the things it attempts to accomplish may be better done in other software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
