What is Object First?

Some backup storage comes with compromise, sacrificing performance for affordability, simplicity for performance, or resilience for simplicity. Object First aims to eliminate the need for Veeam customers to compromise or sacrifice. Object First Ootbi stand for out-of-the-box immutability. Ootbi is ransomware-proof and delivers simple backup storage for Veeam customers. According to the vendor, the solution can be racked, stacked, and powered in 15-minutes. Ootbi is built on immutable object storage technology that is designed and optimized for backup and recovery performance. Object First Ootbi's "immutability" refers to a specific feature made optimal by utilizing object storage technology. Its implementation of object storage allows it to create immutable buckets (a type of logical storage pool) where objects (like a file but with more metadata) can be stored and kept immutable, meaning nothing can update, alter, or delete them. With the constant threat of ransomware looming forever in the Veeam admin’s mind, users may need a storage target that is genuinely immutable and secure. Ootbi aims to solve this, and it doubles down on the security aspect by being a complete black box (no way to see inside or tamper with) to the user. It achieves this by allowing no root (or any admin privileges of the sort), operating system, or backend access, solving for internal-based attacks (both accidental and malicious) and external threats. While ransomware may penetrate the local data center and corrupt a business, having an immutable backup of that data means that recovery is always possible. Immutable data is entirely secure, and with how we have built and optimized Ootbi, it is the last bastion of hope against the ransomware threat.

What do you like best about Object First?

ObjectFirst has done a great job of making the Ootbi extremely simple to setup and performant. The process is very straight forward and well documented. The entire process from rack, stack, config, and deply can be accomplished in under 30 minutes. After that, you live with the comfort of "immutable bliss" moving forward!

As an added bonus, everyone that I interacted with at ObjectFirst (From my sales rep to support) were extremely plesant and knowledgeable. They have a great product and they are operating already like the gold standard in their class. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Object First?

My only chief complaint, which is more of a shot at Veeam than ObjectFirst, is that veeam has a 10 day immutable period configured that is not reflected in the UI. So you could potentially fill up your Ootbi unexpectedly, and then be unable to delete objects to clear up space. My advice for new ObjectFirst users to to slowly migrate your backup jobs. The OOTBI array is truly a quick and easy solutiion to keeping your backups secure. With the built in security and controls in place to keep the security in place, it truly is an immutable appliance. We leverage this for ourselves and our customers to provide a secure repository to store backups in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Object First?

Ability to scale. While this is on the roadmap to get bigger and better, the size at this time is a little turn off for the large cusotmers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Object First?

Object First is amazingly easy to set up and can be running in under 30 minutes. The setup, configuration, and connectivity are very simple. Connecting the system to Veeam Backup afterwards is also extremely easy.

Simple, secure, easy to configure/setup, WebUI is clean and easy to navigate, updating is simple and connectivity to Veeam is very easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Object First?

- SSL - need to be able to implement CA-signed certificates
