"Good service until 2022. Then the service becomes very unreliable."
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

The ability to put up a container and code fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

After 2022, the service is very unreliable. Any attempts to ask for support won't be resolved until days later. This is not good if you have a business that is depending on CodeAnywhere containers being up - since they can be down for days with no reason and zero support. "The Best IDE I've used for my development work and managing servers"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

I love the legacy IDE and have been using it for more than two years. I use it to manage my servers on Azure/AWS and work on the code directly in the containers Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

Recently they took away the shortcut to the legacy IDE; it used to be easy to access the moment I logged in to my account. But in recent updates, it has gotten more difficult to access the legacy IDE directly. Dev/Product Team, please bring back the shortcut to the IDE and please do not remove the legacy IDE as one your features.

Updates: Dev/Product Team brought back the shortcut! Thanks team! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great! Most of the time"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

Code Anywhere has been a great tool in helping me organize projects and manage client websites. Editing is quick and easy, and I can log in from anywhere to make updates Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

There are occasional bugs that prevent me from editing or saving any work. When this occurs, it's usually for about 30 minutes. Although rare, it is annoying. More customization would be nice too, for example, when double-clicking a variable in PHP (Ex: $my_name), I'd like to be able to choose in my settings whether or not to highlight the $. This would save time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Solution for remote development work with restricted access by IP-address"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

One of my clients has restricted access to their server on IP-address. As I work more than 50% of my time remotely, Codeanywhere is the solution. I once gave all IP-addresses of Codeanywhere to IT-security and now I can work everywhere. This is what I like best. But also development on my iPad. I did not find any other solution that permits me to be a developer in PHP on my iPad. The editor is great and I like the SFTP direct connections to my sources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

The price. For the Freelancer Plan with SFTP-connections, I pay $8 * 12 = $96 / year. It is too expensive for me but I did not find an alternative as good as Codeanywhere. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy to use, functional, cloud development environment"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

It's super easy for me to connect Codeanywhere to Digital Ocean servers, so I can spin up a development environment and start deploying resources in minutes. The interface of Codeanywhere makes it easy to connect to the server, pull the code from GitHub, edit and deploy, all in my browser. The low cost means I'm not stressed about extra layers. Instead, I get to focus on development. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

Some elements of the UI can feel a bit clunky, but that's generally not the case. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The best cloud IDE I've found, but increasingly falls behind VS Code"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

I can use it from a browser anywhere. I'm a Chromebook user so a cloud-based service is ideal for me. It's a pretty good basic code editor. It handles SFTP and SSH connections which is handy. I've tried other alternatives like Shift Edit but found them buggier (although CodeAnywhere has some bugs too). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

I've started using VS Code in the past year (as my newer Chromebook can run Linux and Android apps). Seeing what a really good code editor can be, I increasingly see the limitations of CodeAnywhere. I'm still using it as it's handy for smaller projects where I can get away with the limitations, but less and less. It feels like it was a really innovative idea 5+ years ago, but the company hasn't invested in keeping it up to date.

I also have misgivings about the support and stability. There are also some random bugs and they don't seem to get fixed. And a year or two back there was a major outage -- the entire service didn't work (for a day or more I think). The company seemed to go into a bunker mentality and barely apologised or communicated what was happening and how quickly it would be solved. That was a big red flag for me, as up until that point I'd been reliant on CodeAnywhere for my work, and it's pushed me to look elsewhere. I'm not convinced how customer-centric they really are as a company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Makes coding easy!"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

My favorite thing about Codeanywhere is that it has version history - it has saved me so many times! I also love the code formatting, autocomplete, and just how easy it is to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

My only complaint is that the checkbox to remain signed in doesn't really work - if I keep the browser tab open and come back the next day, it does make me sign in again. But that is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, since it makes my life easier! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Croatia-based IDE operates exactly as you think it would"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

I appreciate cloud IDEs for team collaboration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

"Always on" servers shut off in the middle of code edits, resulting in lost code. Custom domains do not work over HTTPS via Cloudflare (or possibly at all). The editor is slow and clunky, even though they are now trying to emulate VS Code's UI. If you click into a project from the dashboard, it dumps you into whatever project you had open in the IDE last, which means wasted time as you discover you are editing the wrong project. Service is sometimes rude, combative, or unresponsive depending on who you get -- it seems set up to trap people into no refund periods even if due to their non-responsiveness. As soon as you mention "refund," expect to get lost in support hell and be prepared to contest the charge. Not worth the headache. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Amazing development Tool"
What do you like best about Codeanywhere?

We're able to manage all stuff together, my containers, connections, and IDE, all this in a collaborative way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?

There are few times the pair programming (collaborative development) breaks down. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
