Hard to consume the data and see what is on the stream. For example, if we wanted to see a message that is causing issues (poison pill), we have to commit logging to the app that is ingestioning from the stream. There are many ways to deal with streaming data, like Kafka, Samsa etc. Even though there is a managed Kafka service, Kinesis is different because it is closely integrated with numerous AWS services.
