What is the best way to implement spec maps into Arnold's standard shaders

I am not sure how to implement spec maps into Arnolds aistandardshader. When I apply it to the color under reflections, I can't see anything, when I apply it to the strength under reflections, I can't see anything

How do I use RGBA AOV in grey scale pass?

In mental ray we can render associate passes in grey scale so we can have more flexibility in comp while doing beautification of characters. Can we render like that in Arnold ?
