There is a day where people can come together and design software that meets the needs of users without a high price tag or covert monitoring, it's today! Download OpenOffice Calc to experience the hidden joys of free software with powerful formulas, macros, and simple arithmetic. No kidding! It has all the built-in extras that you get with Microsoft or Apple but without having to break the bank. Recommendations to others considering Apache OpenOffice Calc:

Get online and scour some of the forums or YouTube videos where you can learn some of the basics of using this software. Simple keyboard shortcuts like CTRL+C and CTRL+V can be a lifesaver when manipulating spreadsheets. Get used to using them. Then, learn formulas like VLOOKUP to search and return results in one cell from another area of your spreadsheet. This is especially important when you are dealing with large datasets and multiple tabs. Don't fret, coding in spreadsheets isn't as hard as it might seem. Get your feet wet and your hands typing and enjoy the beauty of this simple but powerful tool. You can save down spreadsheets to MS Office file extensions too! What do you like best about Apache OpenOffice Calc?

OpenOffice is my go-to program when dealing with legacy files. It was able to handle old MS Word documents, when even older versions of MS Office could not open them. The fact that it is free software is a huge plus. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache OpenOffice Calc?

I am often "forced" to use more commercial products, so I am not as used to OpenOffice's interface. I would feel funny saving in the native format (.odt), as most people would not be familiar with it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Apache OpenOffice Calc?

The price! Hands down this is the best software for the money. I like that it is completely compatible with Microsoft, so anyone I send docs to don't even know that I"m using a different program. On the flip side, I don't have to worry about being able to read documents received from any other source. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache OpenOffice Calc?

Some of the menus are a little confusing until you get used to them. It took me a few minutes to figure out print. It should have a quicker get to. There is not a right click option to reach it quickly. I didn't know such a product existed. They aren't really advertised main stream as they should. Stick it out become accustom to the differences between this and microsoft. It's totally worth it. I can't say enough good things about the price of the product for what you get. Apache OpenOffice Calc is capable of opening and saving spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel file format, which makes it very convenient software, as the default format in Apache OpenOffice Calc can also be set to be used as Microsoft Excel format, or the ODF (Open Document Format). What do you dislike about Apache OpenOffice Calc?

Calc has a great advantage thanks to its wide catalog of formats, but this brings with it one of the major disadvantages: the software develops slowly regardless of the computer's capabilities. This does not hinder functionality at all, but it would be more convenient to have a more fluid tool, especially when modifying a document and saving it. And as has been said on more than one occasion, despite having many formats, the support for some (especially closed formats) may not be entirely compatible. It is ideal for students or organizations, Open Office is a small and pleasant text processor for general files. It has a similar feel to Word or Pages, without the costs associated with any of the applications. In addition, you can open rich text files, plain text, .doc or .pages without problems, so it is a great resource to access files if you have an application that can not open it in another way or retrieve the text. What I like the least about Open Office is what can be a little problematic in the Mac environment, but mainly in the advanced functions, not so much for the user in general. 4.1 is a bit unstable, with many locks, and customer service is more difficult to navigate through user forums. As a student, I used to feel pain for the money I needed to use something just to be able to format the text of the documents, when the cost was really higher for the functions I would never use.

Recommendations to others considering Apache OpenOffice Calc:

Accepting the reality that most of the users (including my person) use mostly Microsoft software, it is necessary a period of adaptation to use the program, since the buttons, functions and general structure are presented with menus sometimes quite different from the excel, although we are fair: whenever you change the program, or version thereof, you need a period of adaptation to use it again efficiently.

For me it is more important the fact that it "hangs up" from time to time, especially when you import and modify a document from Office.

I have not asked why it happens, because it could be that it was even done on purpose, simply so that each time you use less the program of the competition, a strategy that is otherwise valid. wonderful experience with this programs, the cons are:
