JQL is 'Jira Query Language' which allows querying data from a JIRA project. The syntax is very simple and looks similar to SQL. Using JQL, one can filter issues in the project based on an issue type.

Here is a great overview for tracking SLAs in Jira: https://confluence.atlassian.com/servicedeskserver/setting-up-slas-939926373.html It involves setting up a time metric to track the time between two points in an issue's lifecycle. You'll also want to add a "goal" to your SLA metric, to ensure you've set up the guidelines for hitting the metric.
