How can I monitor my students work when we do breakout sessions?

When I break them up is there a way that I can record each session since I can only actually be present in one? Is there a tool that makes that easier!

Hi Cleo, I think it depends on which video conferencing tool you’re using to host the meetings. Some tools only allow you to record the main meeting room and not the breakout rooms. One option if you don’t need to be with the students the whole time is you switching between breakout rooms every few minutes, but that only allows you to monitor one at a time. If you need to watch what all the students are doing in the breakout rooms, I like Frank’s suggestion of having one of the students in a room record the session and send it to you afterwards. If the video platform you’re using doesn’t allow recording for breakout rooms, you could have your students use a screen capture tool (see some examples with reviews here: https://www.g2.com/categories/screen-and-video-capture).

I was just in an online teaching course where people were talking about this. From what they said you can record the breakout sessions just like you can record the main session. At the end of the breakout sessions you can ask the students to send you the recording.
