You are right - sfdc is a low bar. Back in 1999 AD when it was built it came to market as the poor man's Siebel crm. Today it is the most expensive, by far, crm product on the market. The continuing existence of this outdated product does defy common sense.
Common sense is the most uncommon thing.
I remember back in 2000 AD when sfdc's ad banners on websites and blogs would say 'No Software'. People were pulling all-nighters writing blockbusting software back then, so it was common to ask what on earth did No Software mean. Today, the next-gen pulling all nighters on 3d multiplayer online games could be wondering if No/Low Code means it does not do anything. The die-hard fans know sfdc is a minimum viable product that expects the customer to feed lots of code.
It's hard to say but there may not be another organization or company that would set out to reach down to the low level set by sfdc. Highly unlikely to happen, because the standards of business, people and technology in the world today are considerably higher than they were in 1999.
For anyone enterprising enough to try reach the low bar, it won't be easy. It will be tough to find software engineers and product managers with those outdated skills (tough but not impossible), expensive to hire and sustain such uncommon people, tougher still to convince investors and quite hard to find customers willing to pay for chronic pain.
But there's a market for everything, so never say never. The half a million earthlings (1 in every 15000 humans!) clicking away on sfdc are there for the taking, and all it really needs is creating a bubble. One needs some soap, water and hot air to create shimmering bubbles!
