Avidemux is incredibly intuitive and simple to use; there was essentially no learning curve necessary to overcome before I was able to edit and encode videos for my specific needs. Also - it's free!
OpenShot Video Editor is a fantastic video editing software as it is open source (free). All the tolls are visible at one place on the home screen, which is very convenient for me to use OpenShot and edit videos. Trim, adding two videos, and many more...
My main issue has been that for any new video clip added, you have to manually reorganize your project to give it space. I have also not found how to mark the beginning and end of each clip which would be helpful instead of manually doing it.
