Description

PostgreSQL is a powerful, open source object-relational database system. It has more than 15 years of active development and a proven architecture that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, data integrity, and correctness. It runs on all major operating systems, including Linux, UNIX (AIX, BSD, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, Mac OS X, Solaris, Tru64), and Windows. It is fully ACID compliant, has full support for foreign keys, joins, views, triggers, and stored procedures (in multiple languages). It includes most SQL:
008 data types, including INTEGER, NUMERIC, BOOLEAN, CHAR, VARCHAR, DATE, INTERVAL, and TIMESTAMP. It also supports storage of binary large objects, including pictures, sounds, or video. It has native programming interfaces for C/C++, Java, .Net, Perl, Python, Ruby, Tcl, ODBC, among others, and exceptional documentation.

An enterprise class database, PostgreSQL boasts sophisticated features such as Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC), point in time recovery, tablespaces, asynchronous replication, nested transactions (savepoints), online/hot backups, a sophisticated query planner/optimizer, and write ahead logging for fault tolerance. It supports international character sets, multibyte character encodings, Unicode, and it is locale-aware for sorting, case-sensitivity, and formatting. It is highly scalable both in the sheer quantity of data it can manage and in the number of concurrent users it can accommodate. There are active PostgreSQL systems in production environments that manage in excess of 4 terabytes of data.

What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL, or "Postgres", is an open-source relational database management system (RDBMS).PostgreSQL, or "Postgres", is an open source relational database management system (RDBMS). It supports multiple programming languages, making it easy to develop applications using your preferred language. Unlike some other popular database solutions, such as MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL is 100% free and open source. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

One major disadvantage of PostgreSQL is that it doesn't enjoy as much support from software companies as other database systems like Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle. This can mean that you may find it difficult to find commercial software that supports PostgreSQL and that integrates well with your existing system. Another issue with PostgreSQL is that it can be difficult to upgrade to newer versions. If your company relies on upgrading its database system regularly in order to stay competitive, then you may not want to choose PostgreSQL.Finally, some businesses may find that they need more features than what's offered byPostgreSQL when compared to other enterprise-level database systems. These features may include complex security controls, data replication and mirroring, and advanced performance tuning options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

PostgreSQL offers advanced security features such as role-based access control and mandatory access control. This makes it an ideal choice for high-security environments.PostgreSQL supports robust data replication which enables you to replicate your data across multiple databases or clusters. What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is a fast, secure and reliable database to store relational data. It also supports ACID properties, so we stored sensitive data there. It is a open source platform so that we don't have to buy any subscription to use this database. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

The best part is that it is free to use and open-source. The installation was super easy because there are plenty of guides available online. We have been using this to gather tweets, and it has made our job easier. Not only that, but it is user-friendly. It also allows for scalability, which is a bonus. As tweets are saved in json it is easier to go through them without anything crashing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

There is just one teeny issue and that is when you are trying to configure it, there can be some errors which can't be fixed. I was unable to find the solution till I Googled it and found it on a tech website which explained how to sort it out. This configuration issue occurred a year ago and it has yet to be fixed in the new release. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PostgreSQL solving and how is that benefiting you?

It makes it easy to save tweets from hashtag campaigns and allows for a proper storage for analysis later. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
