The most helpful thing is that the integration has made connecting to data so much easier. Extracting, manipulating and loading the data so that it is ready for analysis is now super convenient. I feel like the SQL server from Microsoft is not really weak or serve as something to dislike. The issue I do take with it is the other side of the coin as it relates to its strength. This integration is not for all businesses or even those that simply uses Alation. Make sure that you use other Microsoft products to get the most bang for your buck - figuratively and literally. The initial setup ran smoothly, without surprises. The relationship between cost-benefit could be a decisive factor, particularly if support hours are included, but you need to be 100% sure that the features will cover your needs. Alation captured basic data flow but it lacked crucial details about transformations happening within the SSIS packages. Without a way for managing SSIS packages directly from Alation, we needed to switch between platforms very often, a big hole for efficiency. We had to do manual digging whenever we needed to analyze and understand very specific data manipulations but under other circumstances, it could be enough useful. Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is a Low code Enterprise level tool with ease of usage and integration. It has graphical Integration Services to convert any type of data. The no of functions it supports is tremndous, have used other tools as well like trino and all but this one is quite OP. Have built warehouse on it and it's easier than spark and all.
