"Feature packed database component with less than stellar support and bad resilience"
What do you like best about dotConnect for PostgreSQL?
It has all the convenience features for ADO.NET development which are especially useful if you're not using MS SQL on the server side. Performance is generally good and support for new server features are often added with updates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about dotConnect for PostgreSQL?
I haven't contacted support a lot, but when I did, they almost never solved my problems even though their product was to blame. My main issue with this product was that there is no useful resilience built in, so when the network connection was bad between the client and the server the component started to throw different types of seemingly unrelated exceptions. To be fair there is a way to capture connection errors, but only about 30-50% gets caught (and handled) this way. The rest of these exceptions include InvalidOperationException and IndexOutOfRangeException with stack traces that are absolutely useless, containing method names of a single letter only. They probably do this to combat reverse engineering but it also makes debugging my application with their product very hard. Because of their reluctance of fixing bugs (or at least help me work around it) and because ADO.NET is already obsolete I decided not to pay for their support anymore after almost 10 years.
Visual Studio 2022 is out for months, but they still haven't upgraded their components to make them compatible with it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback on your experience with dotConnect for PostgreSQL. We appreciate your insights, and we apologize for any frustrations you've encountered.
We're pleased to hear that you find dotConnect for PostgreSQL feature-packed and well-suited for ADO.NET development, especially when working with non-Microsoft SQL servers. Your acknowledgment of the product's generally good performance and timely updates to support new server features is valuable feedback for us.
However, we are genuinely sorry to hear about the challenges you've faced with our support and the lack of resilience in the component, particularly in handling network connection issues. We are committed to addressing these issues and improving our support responsiveness and the robustness of our component.
We are grateful for your almost 10 years of support, and we understand your decision to discontinue support based on the issues you've encountered. We are committed to regaining your trust by addressing the mentioned challenges and providing a more seamless experience in the future.
Thank you for choosing dotConnect for PostgreSQL, and we look forward to delivering an improved and more satisfying experience for you.
