"It is a license NIGHTMARE. Never change laptops or upgrade anything unless you want hell."
What do you like best about dbForge SQL Complete?

You can make your own rules for formatting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about dbForge SQL Complete?

Every time I upgrade to the newer version, there is a lot of trouble. Hours of hassle. All the time saved is lost. I have the license, but apparently, I have to do hours of contortions if I dare to do anything differently than they think it should be done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Jordan Sanders of dbForge SQL Complete

Hello,

Thank you for leaving your comment, and please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

The last SQL Complete release introduced a new license activation system (it will make future license management simpler). Unfortunately, switching to this new activation system also suggested the necessity of additional actions on the user’s side during the upgrade.

We did our best to make this upgrade as smooth as possible. We sent 2 letters to all users to inform about those peculiarities and provide them with detailed instructions on the license activation. Unfortunately, it turned up to be insufficient.

We are deeply sorry that you faced these difficulties during the product upgrade. We assure you that it was a one-time issue that will never happen again in the future.

"Worth the money"
What do you like best about dbForge SQL Complete?

It's easy to use, has enough features to help with my tasks Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about dbForge SQL Complete?

I'm not happy with the SQL Formatter. For example the RedGate product is better. It should use a full lexical parser / analyser. It doesn't make a difference between a schema name or table name. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great productivity tool when using SSMS"
What do you like best about dbForge SQL Complete?

Auto-complete and other code snippets and shortcuts are time saving in terms of coding faster and more accurately. The code formatting and layout improves readability and consistency. I really like being able to generate insert update and delete statements quickly via the tool.

In SSMS it remembers the open tabs after closing the application as well as keeping unsaved changes. All of which are time savers. Finally connection tabs can be colour coded to differentiate between different servers or environments. All of these help reduce the risk of mistakes or making changes on the wrong servers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about dbForge SQL Complete?

Sometimes it can be slow to retrieve database metadata which it does when connecting for the first time to a database instance. It must complete database metadata retrieval in order to start functioning. On occasion it has made SSMS unresponsive and requiring a restart to start functioning normally again. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Jordan Sanders of dbForge SQL Complete

Our team has optimized the processes of obtaining metadata in version 6.7. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version of SQL Complete.

"SQL Complete is a time saving tool"
What do you like best about dbForge SQL Complete?

There are several things I like about SQL Complete. First, I love the history. This keeps a history of all of the queries that were performed. Second, When you close SSMS, when you reopen, all of your query windows open back up. Finally, I like the intellisense that SQL complete provides Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about dbForge SQL Complete?

The one thing I do not like is with the history, it keep the connection as part of the query. So, for example, if I open SSMS and connect to my prod server and run a query, then open another SSMS and connect to my dev server, I can see the query I performed on prod. The problem is if I execute that query from dev(using the open in window feature), it will run it against my prod server, even thought SSMS is connected to my dev server. This is very problematic. There may be a option to turn this off, but I'm not aware of it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Jordan Sanders of dbForge SQL Complete

Yes, a SQL document with an already organized connection opens from the Execution History, but the query is not executed automatically, the user can choose a different connection in the SQL document and execute it on the required server.

You see, if we do not store the connection, then the essence of this feature will be lost since having opened a document with a query, the user will not know which server he queried earlier. To avoid a situation with an already organized connection you've described, you can copy a query to the clipboard and paste it into a new SQL document with the required connection.

"Definitely increases productivity"
What do you like best about dbForge SQL Complete?

Love using the execution history to find recent SQL statements executed for customer support or system installations. With this feature, I can easily continue where I left and don't have to rewrite stuff. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about dbForge SQL Complete?

No downside at all. Personally, I don't like auto-generation of table aliases because abbreviations sometimes don't make the code readable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Jordan Sanders of dbForge SQL Complete

We plan to improve aliases in the nearest future, but we need a specific example on how you would like aliases to be generated.

At the moment, you can customize aliases in the SQL Complete -> Alias menu.

For more information on how to set up aliases, you can use HELP:

What do you like best about dbForge SQL Complete?

refactoring (like renaming columns) is convenient Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about dbForge SQL Complete?

When refactoring cross database dependencies are hard to get right.

As an example a secondary database has a synonym to table in the primary database. Then when a column in table in primary database is renamed you really want the SPs etc in the secondary database to be examined for refactoring effects too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Jordan Sanders of dbForge SQL Complete

At the moment, SQL Complete doesn't support renaming of server objects. Refactoring is done only in the script.

We plan to improve refactoring functions, including the ability to rename server objects in the upcoming versions.
