What do you like best about Apache log4j?

What do you like best about Apache log4j?

I have used it in my previous organization for log management of our J2EE applications. The best part is to be able to manage log levels based on java package path. It's a very powerful way to decide and dynamically log at the level based on the environment and need of the hour. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache log4j?

In the earlier versions of log4j we had trouble being able to change the log levels dynamically at runtime without having to restart the server or the application. This was okay at lower environments. But, a big no for Production environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Apache log4j?

The customization. With Log4J you can pick and choose your logging levels down to the class. The ability for me to more easily debug my software just by upping the logging makes fixing bugs and errors so much easier. It also allows me to Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Complicated set up. There's a lot of moving pieces with Log4J set up but once it's set up it's easy to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

In my opinion, Apache log4j 2.0 is worth the upgrade- much better than the previous version. The plugin system has really helped me out. I have greatly enjoyed using this product. Performance is faster than ever! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache log4j?

The Async Appender isn't really for me- it's difficult and clunky to use and, in my opinion, isn't really worth it. I don't really want to add another logging framework to my daily tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache log4j?

There is a "native" implementation of the SLF4J API called Logback. Last year I was on a project in which we decided to switch from Log4J to Logback very late in the project, because Log4J locks logfiles and Logback does not (which means that on Windows, you can't delete a logfile while Log4J has it open; Logback doesn't have that problem). I have used log4j for several years. It's a good library highly configurable. It was part of all my libraries and java programms development. Used in conjunction with SLF4j is the best solution in the market. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Unfortunately its development seems to be abandoned. Fortunately the same authors of log4j create a new library called logback, that it seems to be better than its predecessor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
